January 2, 201015 yr Author comment_304888 While triple carbs or injection will give you improved performance when properly tuned, your limiting factor with your current setup is the stock struts. I would invest in coil-over system first as that will lower your lap times significantly even with your SU carbs.Just my 2 cents. Yeah I know. I have a separate post where we are discussing coilovers. The suggestion there was to get an LSD instead. Ideally I would like to do the Mikuni's, a hotter cam, coilovers and an LSD. I only have some much funding though, !! I am thinking of what makes the most sense to get the most bang for my bucks. Right now the suspension handles very well. I know coilovers would be an improvement, but I am not that unhappy with the handling. So what I am leaning toward now is to get an LSD and put on the Mikuni's. As funds allow, I will put in the hotter cam and follow up with the coilovers. All opinions welcome! January 2, 201015 yr comment_304889 Marty I run 180 air and 150 fuel on mine runs well ( wolf creek racing) has a good pamphlet for $10-$15 on setting it up. I found them very helpful and there are ports on the manifold for vac advance. aaron Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34272-mikunis-vs-sus/?&page=2#findComment-304889 Share on other sites

Thanks for the head-up on that.Glad to hear I can get vaccuum on the manifold. That is one less thing I need to deal with.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34272-mikunis-vs-sus/?&page=2#findComment-304890 Share on other sites
January 2, 201015 yr comment_304897 The Mikunis have a port for distributor vacuum advance on the front most carb. Also vacuum on the carb is not the same as manifold vacuum and thus most desireable when available. A wideband air/fuel ratio meter is immensely valueable for carb/injection tuning. I used an AEM unit mounted in my stock clock housing for a clean install. January 7, 201015 yr Author comment_305426 Marty,This video should help you decide. Thanks Greg. Your cars sounds really sweet!!I am about 90% convinced to go with the Mikuni's at this point. I have not really heard anything bad about them.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34272-mikunis-vs-sus/?&page=2#findComment-305426 Share on other sites
January 7, 201015 yr comment_305431 Only negatives IMO are cost and tuning. That being said. I would never give my 44's up Sounds ridiculoso Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34272-mikunis-vs-sus/?&page=2#findComment-305431 Share on other sites

Do you think that they are hard to tune? Hard to keep in tune? Greg Ha ha, Greg, you are one tricky guy, !! Are your SU's stock or seriously tweaked? I realize that the class you run in may require you to use SU's. A friend of mine that runs in Vintage up here said he is the only one in his class still running SU's. Several people have implied that if I go with a hotter cam, that the SU's just won't let it breath enough. Anyway, I need to get more power out of this beast. I figured the triples was one of the faster, easier ways to do it. January 7, 201015 yr comment_305443 My dad has an L28 with stage III isky cam and is running Z therapy SU's Our dyno guy said that his AF was absolutely perfect with the SU's. I don't think you will have any issues but as stated.... Mikuni's will give you more power and sound incredible when tuned right. I had someone else tune mine. He didn't have any trouble getting them close but I need smaller jets to lean out the mixture. I am fouling plugs at higher RPM's and losing power above 4k RPM's or so. My L20 made 125 RWHP. Hoping to make 150 when I order new jets from Todd at Wolf Creek next week. In addition, my mechanical fuel pump couldn't keep up and I had to upgrade to electronic fuel pump. I also figured do it once and do it right so I put about $400 worth of Aeroquip lines and fittings. Which will never fail and look great!!!! Do you have any close-ups of the fuel gauge on the firewall? The Aeroquip lines do look sweet! I have always wanted to put that on my car some day. But $400 for 3 lines, ouch!! I didn't know it cost that much. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34272-mikunis-vs-sus/?&page=2#findComment-305451 Share on other sites
