Posted January 13, 201015 yr comment_305989 Hello there, Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.. I am a new Z owner in the Bay Area (Cupertino). I have had my car since November 1 and already introduced myself on hybridz.org but I thought it'd be cool to get to know some folks here. I bought HLS30-005889, an Early 1971 Series I, in Glendale, CA (blue plate original CA car) from the second owner. Made the 5 hours drive down south and managed to pick this beauty up. The color is 903 Dark Blue, and from what I've gathered... the only modifications at the time of purchase were an 70 's Escort Cruise Control, AC, MSD Electronic Ignition, and 280Z 5 spd transmission. Unfortunately the engine codes don't match, which works out because I plan to put a L28ET in... When I bought the car, for some reason the old owner replaced the hatch and C pillar emblems so that the car would look like a Series II (emblems and vents). So I am in the process of bringing it back to its former self. So far I've added new Tokico Springs/Shocks with Energy Bump Stops, a Xenon Front Air Dam and Endlink bushings, and a 280ZX alternator. Most of my time has been dedicated to cleaning it up, even though it was extremely clean from the beginning. I have a AZC front disc brake kit, full energy bushing kit, and rota rb-r wheels, ready to go in asap. Every modification I do will be 100% reversable, as I know low VIN Z's are hard to come by. Anyways.. it's gonna be nice to meet some new people! January 13, 201015 yr comment_306000 You had better check the VIN number on the firewall, this car sure looks like a series two to me. Why would someone replace the vented hatch and install different quarter emblems where the mounting holes wouldn't match up? Unless there was rear end damage necessitating new quarter panels and hatch.I would check all four VIN numbers just to be sure. January 13, 201015 yr Author comment_306009 Yep, all VINs match.. Swiss Cheese Rear DeckTools/Jack behind SeatsCovered holes for 240Z Quarter Panel BadgeHorizontal (only) heater ventsChromed coat hangeretc. etc. etc. etc.Just odd circumstances why this car would look like a Series II. But I've done my research and all fingers point towards Series I. Julio Oh, only 20 miles ish away from me.. nice to know someone else is doing a resto-mod. It'd be cool if a few people in the bay had a meet once in awhile. Haven't got a good chance to take a solid look at any other Z cars besides mine Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34400-another-z-in-the-bay/#findComment-306029 Share on other sites

Haven't got a good chance to take a solid look at any other Z cars besides mine There is a monthly old school import meet the last thursday of every month at the starbucks on the corner of El Camino and Lawrence Expy. Usually at least a couple Z's there. Keep an eye on Craigslist, as the organizer usually posts up a notice there. January 14, 201015 yr comment_306096 Welcome! Nice car, I like that color! I'm up in the east bay, went to San Jose State down there so Cupertino is a familiar place. I used to golf weekends at Sunken Gardens and Black Berry Farms, cheaper 9-hole courses on a college student budget. I tried to go to the South Bay meet before Christmas but my alternator went kaput in Hayward so it didn't quite make it :stupid: Not sure about this month either because I'm waiting for Summit to get their header gaskets back in stock. I heard the meet is already big and is getting bigger every month!
