January 16, 201015 yr comment_306340 Bonzi, I sure like the before and after pics of your '73 (what a huge difference!) and the fact that both pictures were taken in just about the same spot. I also love that 115 Metallic Blue paint! January 16, 201015 yr comment_306353 For me its been almost 1 year and 4 months. This was a stripped shell to finally getting the body and paint almost done. I think you forget the bad (how long its been) for the good (the anticipation of having a great car). carl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34420-how-long-did-your-body-shop-take/?&page=2#findComment-306353 Share on other sites
January 16, 201015 yr comment_306355 As you can see, the time it takes varies wildly by the amount of work, who's doing it, and how many other jobs they may be juggling.Mine was 6 weeks to the day from when I started pulling trim until I finished reassembling it. That included having the roof skin replaced at one shop and the paint at another. Documented in the thread below.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30588 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34420-how-long-did-your-body-shop-take/?&page=2#findComment-306355 Share on other sites
January 17, 201015 yr comment_306444 Bonzi, I sure like the before and after pics of your '73 (what a huge difference!) and the fact that both pictures were taken in just about the same spot. I also love that 115 Metallic Blue paint! Thanks Steve, it was a huge improvement. It was intended all along to have the before and after shots in the same place, IF I EVER got it done. First was a film camera then had to swich to digital. That blue paint is so close to 115 Metalic Blue it is scary. Painter Ray used his eye and a tool box under lid and came up with "1991 Mitsubishi 'import only' Fiji Blue Metalic" tweeked with more metalic and added some pearl. The under hood and bay were not done, except battery box area, to show the original paint. The only difference is the shine. When he handed me the can of extra paint, it was marked "Bonzi Blue Metalic Pearl", along with the code. January 17, 201015 yr comment_306446 14 months - It's really best not to push - My time period was longer than my quote due to finding issues once they got into it........working mainly on insurance jobs - and then working more on insurance jobs - then working more in insurance jobs - well - you kinda get the picture. I would go by weekly and take pictures so I could keep a dated time log of their work and for me to have the work documented. I will promise you I will not buy another car without touching it first though. An airplane tickets cost vs. body shop cost plus the time - not even a second thought for the next one. January 17, 201015 yr comment_306451 Well said Mitchell.......It's much better to pay up for a rust free shell than to pay some one to bring a problem child up to snuff. When we had the big snow storm a couple of weeks ago in Virginia, the first thing that came to my mind was the dreaded increase in insurance claims. But you certainly don't want to rush a good bodyman!
