pyrophoricity Posted January 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) hi all im new to the forums and only recently became interested in the 240z after seeing one on the road. i don't know to much information about it but i do know the specs of the 240z and the 280z and have been able to find out enough information about them through this forum to choose a 240z as my preference. so i have decided to buy one in a couple of years but i would like to know as much info as possible beforehand. i was wondering what the fuel consumption is like on a stock 240z in good condition and what it would be like as a daily drive. also is there any other really important information i should know about before buying one?by the way im living in australia so any prices or figures would be good in metric and australian dollors if possible Edited January 18, 2010 by pyrophoricity left out some info
mayitin Posted January 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2010 21 miles per gallon, very good daily driver, rust is your #1 enemy

My 280Z actually averaged a bit better than that at 24 mpg or a little over 10 Km/L. I'm sure you're already aware of the rust issues.
pyrophoricity Posted January 18, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted January 18, 2010 i have never really been interested in fuel economy untill i have started looking at cars to buy so is 21 mpg a good fuel economy because i dont really want to be spending much on petrol and where are the main spots i should look for rust? are there any other faults i should look for aswell? sblake01 Posted January 18, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 18, 2010 Go to http://www.zhome.com/ and scroll to the 'Z Onwership: Index page. Under that there's a 'Buying A Z Car-tips:' section which will answer most of your questions about what to watch for.

Unkle Posted January 18, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 18, 2010 I can encourage you by saying in a couple of years fuel economy won't be your concern ! I'd say a decent 240zwon't be available . Get one now , or go with a newer carthat has much better safety , no rust , and parts are cheap.
pyrophoricity Posted January 18, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) im just worried about the fuel economy because if it is going to be expensive to run then i will keep it as a weekend driver. so is 21 mpg good fuel economy? nahurry Posted January 18, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 18, 2010 i had the bodywork and paint done on my car in 1999, now 11 years later, i am getting ready to replace passenger door, and repair right side wheel arch and dogleg because of rust coming back through. mine is a daily driver that sees rain. As mentioned, it might be comparable to approximately 8-9L/100km. Adding to that you might want to use premium fuel and it will cost you more than your average Civic or Corolla. My thoughts have always been this: If I can't afford to fill it, I shouldn't own it.My .
