Most likely a 3.70. I just grabbed one from an 85 ZXT 5spd, and there was an 87 Auto with a 3.70 as well. I'm no expert on Z31s but this is what I saw. BTW, you can look on the data plate in the engine compartment to determine what the ratio is, assuming the diff or gears haven't been swapped... RC37 = 3.70, RC39 = 3.90, RC41 = 4.10, etc.

Does this mean that a 300zx's half shafts will mate up with 240 stub shafts, or do those need to be swapped out as well. I think I would rather have a 3.7 than a 3.9 (assuming I ever get hold of a decent 5 speed).

The Z31 uses a half-shaft with CV joints and an integrated diff side stub that mates with the R200 and is not compatible with the R180. The other end on the wheel side uses two different flanges and bolt patterns (turbo or non-turbo), neither of which are compatible with the S30 stub axle flanges. Replacement stub axle flanges for conversions are available from www.Modern-Motorsports.com.

Conversion from R80 to R200 has been covered both here and over at Hybridz.org many times so I won't go into more detail, but rather recommend a search for existing content.

I'm in SoCal Ontario ..please call/text 909-224-4397

I have a completely rebuilt one 3.70 (New bearing and seals) with anadized rear cover and new drain plug for $350 if you like.

Also I have brand new one in the box as well. (3.56 and 3.90)
