Posted February 9, 201015 yr comment_309004 For those of you in California, April 8-10 is the Targa California. This is 2 1/2 days, appx 900 miles of driving through some of the nicest back roads in Central California. Last year I took my roadster on it, and it was easily the best drive of the year.It is basically pre '75 cars, though "continuation years" are welcome as well-picking up where the Iron Bottom left off. No entrance fee, only the cost of fuel, food and lodging if you elect to do so. Home base will be Paso Robles. I don't think they have updated the site yet, but you can google "Targa California" for info once they do. Hopefully there will be more Datsuns this year to represent. January 28, 201114 yr Author comment_343717 OK, so I posted this last year, and was pretty underwhelmed by the representation of Datsuns. My roadster, a 510, and I believe one Z. This year, 2011 it is April 7-9 and there IS an entrance fee since it is now an insured event (I have no affiliation with this by the way). There are actually 7 cars registered so far that are being SHIPPED from the east coast for the drive, which should give some perspective of how fun this event is. I will be taking my Z this year, with its "new" tranny, suspension, seat, exhaust and a bunch of other stuff. If anyone wants additional information I can get you a flyer on the event (can't seem to post it here) and other information. If not, I understand and won't it bring it up again. January 28, 201114 yr comment_343722 I'd like some more info. If the 260Z is reliable by then, I may consider it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34694-targa-california-coming-in-april/#findComment-343722 Share on other sites

January 28, 201114 yr Author comment_343732 OK Leon. You have 2 months to get the car roadworthy. Email me at tlorber@naicapital.com and I'll get you the flyer. If you really like DRIVING your car, you'll want to check this out. If for some reason you can't do the whole 3 days you could just tag along for part of it. On the second day we usually get up to Carmel and Monterey to look at some car collections. March 15, 201114 yr Author comment_349338 Just a reminder-and this will be the last post I promise. They currently have about 85 registered parties - 3 of them Z's from what I understand. For those of you in California or neighboring states, get your taxes done now and go for a drive! March 15, 201114 yr comment_349344 So is this event on closed roads, and going for it, or is it a cruise through the countryside? Either way it can be a lot of fun.The Targa down here is held on several closed road stages, with various classes of cars competing.Ex Kiwi Steve Millen (Stillen)has been a competitor in this event. Each stage is preceded by what is known as the Targa Tour, where a fee is paid and you can thrash your car along some nice country roads as quick as you like, with a group of like minded people.Brian. March 16, 201114 yr comment_349376 This sounds like someting tailor made for me but unfortunately I am a few years away from completion. Give us a heads up every April and maybe we will see everyone there. BTW if I come from Florida I'm driving all the way. March 16, 201114 yr Author comment_349481 This is on open, public roads that are pre-driven to ensure their passibility. They also endevor to avoid or warn about johnny law, but there are no guarantees. As I mentioned, there are a couple of cars being shipped from the east coast. However, seeing one from New Zealand would be truly impressive!
