OK,

After owning 5 240Z's I should know this.....but sadly I don't.

What exactly is the part pictured (circled in red) called. I couldn't find it on several parts catelogs so I thought one of you guys could help me out.

I believe the check valve is still available, but to the best of my knowledge, the two hoses are NLA. There are more than one style, definitely early and late, might be an intermediate choice as well.

Various people have built replica hoses using cloth covered normal hose, and running copper wire inside to hold the proper bends. I'm a bit leery of that myself, the original hoses were heavily reinforced to prevent them from collapsing under high vacuum conditions, which could cause a reduction in power assist for the brakes.

Thanks for the clarification on the valve and hoses.

I did find the check valve, and just as you said struck out on the hoses. However there is one set on EBay right now but it still has 4 or 5 days left.

Since I'm not looking to do a concours restoration, is it safe and effective to use a hose from an auto parts store? If so what grade and size.

Arne, I think people are using copper tubing, not wire, inside of the 'replica' hoses, so I would image that would keep them from collapsing, but I haven't tried it myself. I suppose that could also reduce the air volume, so I am not sure if that is a problem or not. I think the set on ebay Randy is referring to is this one that Jim Frederick is selling http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280464739462&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT. He seems to be listing quite of few different replica hoses on ebay recently. They look like they are just cut down from longer stock hoses, maybe fuel hose or something else?

Yes, that is the set I was looking at. If they are cut down would you consider using them, would the hoses be at the local dealer or would a standard fuel line work.

Would like to get something to take back to the shop on Wednesday, but don't want to compromise safety.

I think both Kats and Esprist have both made reproduction hoses using this method. In this thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34094 Kats said he used Nissan fuel hose, but not specifically which one. They seem to be running them with no problems and it seems like it would probably be ok as long you are use copper tubing inside. However, I am no expert and haven't tried it myself, so I am not making any recommendations on this yet.

Generally, the hoses don't wear out. The vacuum check valves can get gummy. When I was looking for the parts for my Z, I found that the vacuum valves that Nissan used were the same across several models. I replaced mine with one from a Sentra. Some of the vacuum check valves have a rubber spacer donut that can be removed - then it will fit perfectly on a Z.
