rust free chassis, primed/prepped body, just add paint

Just went to look at this 72 today. Rolling chassis, 280zx rear disc brakes & upgraded fronts, 16" panasports with new tires, Tokico springs, whole chassis has been coated and/or painted. Almost 100% rust free body, little places on the primer need to be touched up and some surface rust removed. Rear hatch deck has already been replaced.

Dash is cracked, and one seat is tearing, but the carpets are brand new (boxed up) and all the other bits are with the car.

Door handles have been shaved, car has solenoids. Not sure I like that...

Unfortunately, the cost of finishing the body work (properly) and finding the engine/transmission/driveshaft to get her back to life again puts it outside of my budget unless someone knows where I can find a complete 240z powertrain for under a grand. So I figured I'd post it up here to see if anyone else was curious. The thing truly is almost rust free, and it looks like the grimy work is already done.

Looks like a fun project car with a nice body and rims...My biggest concern would not be the drive train (those you can get cheap-donor cars are all over). I don't see glass, bumpers, interior carpet, dashboard and a host of other things. Those get pricey when you add them up. If they are there, what is their condition?

I think the thing to do is look for what you want in a car. Some people want a complete car in great condition. Others, like myself, want a diamond in the rough they can work on for a year or more (keeps me out of trouble). Depends on what you really want to do and have the time and money for. I think you can get a drive train for $1000, but that may need some work as well (I usually pull the head just to see what condition things are in).

asking price from the craigslist ad (which I couldn't find, may have expired) is $3000. He's turned down $1500, but that's as far as that conversation got since I wasn't prepared to make an offer just then. I'm going to talk to a couple body shops and get some quotes on finishing the car, and see where it goes from there. I'm afraid it will be $2k or more to do it right and also install the glass, which even if I could score a dirt cheap powertrain would be pushing the safe limits of my budget.

Motorman, all the other parts seem to be there. Bumpers, interior, quarter windows, door windows, trim pieces, all of it. I ended up taking pictures with his camera cuz mine died mid-visit, so hopefully he'll remember to email those pictures to me and I'll put them up when they arrive. But yes, bumpers and all the other big trim parts are there and in decent shape.

Oh, and since I can't find the ad, if other people are interested in talking to the seller, I can find out if it's alright to give you an email or phone number. The car is located in Mira Mesa, so maybe I'm just overlooking the ad and someone else can find it.

I got the drive train parts right here in San Diego. I think I can let all go for about $1K. It is a complete car that my friend owns that he wants to sell. A project that has not gotten off the ground. The car is at the Hobbyshop at MCRD. I got a 2400 and 2800 motor that can go with it. The 2800 has 5sp tranny and is a fuel injected motor with all the parts on it. The 2400 has fresh E88 head on it and some other new stuff. Still waiting for my friends approval to sell it.
