Posted February 21, 201015 yr comment_310261 I had to pull the head on my L24 to change the blown head gasket. Two of the head bolts broke off. I didn't have the time or the tools to deal with that, so I took it over to a local engine builder. They did a nice job on it.Today, I want to put everything back together. I noticed that the cam has moved out of place from where it was when I took it in to get fixed. I can't seem to get the cam to rotate. That seems odd. I did not want to force it. So I have a couple of questions. What is the best way to rotate the cam? How much force does it take to rotate it? Also, does it spin in only one direction?TIA,Marty Edited February 21, 201015 yr by Marty Rogan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34828-need-timing-help/ Share on other sites
February 21, 201015 yr comment_310264 Just take off the rocker arms, it's pretty easy, use a big screwdriver and remember to put them back on in the same order as you remove them.Chris Edited February 21, 201015 yr by ChrisZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34828-need-timing-help/#findComment-310264 Share on other sites
February 21, 201015 yr Author comment_310266 Just take off the cam follower (isn't that what they are called), it's pretty easy, use a big screwdriver and remember to put them back on in the same order as you remove them.ChrisIs the follower the surface that the cam lobe rides on? How exactly do the come off? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34828-need-timing-help/#findComment-310266 Share on other sites
February 21, 201015 yr comment_310268 Yes it isThere is a little retainer spring, lock spring, what ever on the end furtherst away from the valves, take that off and then you can force the follower up wit a big screwdrive and to the side, hope this makes sense.Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34828-need-timing-help/#findComment-310268 Share on other sites
February 21, 201015 yr Author comment_310272 I popped the retainer springs off. That was enough to allow the cam to move freely. Thanks! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34828-need-timing-help/#findComment-310272 Share on other sites
