December 29, 201212 yr comment_410363 Hello fellow members. I am on the same boat. My stock 280z engine is almost dying. I am thinking of rebuilding it but came across this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-240Z-260Z-280Z-ZX-P90-High-Compression-L28-Engine-Motor-Head-w-Warranty-/400371712636?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3803827c&vxp=mtrInstead of rebuilding my stock, i was wondering getting this. Paired with my stock 5 speed. Since i can pick this up and trade my engine for $150 as a core.I need some opinions regarding the engine posted on ebay. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34949-engine-rebuild/#findComment-410363 Share on other sites
December 29, 201212 yr comment_410368 Do a search here after "datsun parts" and you will get your answer Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/34949-engine-rebuild/#findComment-410368 Share on other sites
December 29, 201212 yr comment_410371 I tried datsun parts, "datsun parts" in quotes and datsunparts as one word in the search box and didn't get anything worth reading. I think that Chris Z is suggesting that datsunparts llc might not have a good reputation. Probably worth checking out before buying, especially for a big item like an engine. December 30, 201212 yr comment_410418 I rebuilt mine with a book from Amazon.com. How to Rebuild your L series motor by Tom Monroe. A little under a $1000 for all new parts except pistons and rods, the crank and the block. Bought the best sounding exhaust and header from MSA, new polyurethane bushings, all new fuel injectors and on and on. Really an easy motor to work with and I learned a lot about my car, I'll keep it as long as I have working legs, it's a manual tranny. My rambling point is for less than $2000 I've got as new a '77 as anybody would want, needs painting though. Is that $.02 worth? December 30, 201212 yr comment_410456 If you are running standard OEM fuel injection you would be better off rebuilding your own engine. Not much point changing to a big cam and such without going aftermarket FI like MegaSquirt II etc. Just my 2 cents worth.
