Here is a local update from Nashville.

The good news is the waters are receding and the host hotel area is dry and was not affected. The heavily hit areas were obviously near the various rivers that run near Nashville. According to a new report last night, Nashville has over 33000 hotel rooms and even without the Opry Hotel there is plenty of rooms. Nashville has temporarily moved the Grand Ole Opry to another site so the show must go on. Nashville counts heavily on the tourism business so it will be working hard to get business, bars and the entertainment back open and operational. Did I say the bars would be open? Chris they are opening a new Jimmy Buffet bar downtown and hopefully it will be open for you at the end of July.

I hope to see all CZC members there.

Spitz17, You get what you registered for as long as you paid your registration fee. The registration form won't allow any more Smyrna tour selections at the moment. I'll bet Wednesday tours get added today.

Now this bar and drinking thing is getting out of hand!!! Convention = Party. That's all I'm saying! The Jimmy Buffet bar sounds like a can't miss, though. I remember Jimmy Buffet used to play on the North Union lawn for free every Sunday when I was at Florida. Of course, Tom Petty was the house band at the Lamplighter.

Opryland is not our convention hotel, thankfully.

Oops! Sorry about the false alarm then. Chris, what is the primary hotel? I got my room recently, so I am in the third or forth alternate and was just going by my poor memory. I checked on the Zcon site before I posted, but it only shows the additional rooms at the Embassy Suites and Hilton Garden, not the original hotel. Was there ever talk of using the Operyland hotel, or have I completely lost my mind?

Anyway, good to hear that the convention area was unaffected and the rest of Nashville is getting back to normal.

-Mike

The primary hotel is Embassy Suites in Franklin / Cool Springs. That filled up and then we contracted for another 75 rooms at the Hilton Garden, just down the street from the Embassy. This is all right around the corner from Nissan headquaters where we will hold the car show Saturday. I'll be in Nashville this Sunday and Monday so I'll have a much better idea of the lay of the land by next week.

We did talk about Operyland initially, but they couldn't fill our reservation needs. The place is booked years in advance. Err...not now.

Our travel plans out of Texas:

-Leave San Antonio Sunday July 25th and head to Dallas for Mad Mike Party

-Leave Dallas on Monday July 26th and head straight to Nashville

-Leave Nashville on Tuesday July 27th and head to the Tail of the Dragon. Stay in the Mountains Tuesday night.

-Leave the Tail on Wednesday after lunch and head back to Franklin for the ZCON opening reception.

FYI- There are 3 groups heading out of the Dallas area. On Monday we leave and do the drive in 1 shot. Mad Mike also leads a group out on Monday but they will be towing cars so they plan to arrive on Tuesday to Nashville. A third group plans to leave Tuesday and do a straight drive.

If anyone wants to join us for the caravan or the Tail of the Dragon you are more than welcome.

Just returned from two days in Nashville discussing the convention plans with four of the convention guys. We met with Nissan, the hotel people and the track people also. The convention hotel is within walking distance of Nissan and the car show. There will be three cars in the lobby and about eight more outside the front. There is tons of parking and plenty of room for the fifty-some trailers we are anticipating at the moment. The overflow hotel is about a mile down the road. It is a brand new facility and has the same amenities as the Embassy - indoor pool, business room, etc. Both hotel parking lots will have an off duty police officer for security.

We anticipate filling up the front lawn at Nissan with around three-hundred cars or more. Nissan headquarters will be open and food will be available in the Nissan cafteria which services about 1,500 people daily. You'll be impressed. Special displays will be in front of the building including race cars, heritage vehicles, and concourse cars. There have been questions about tickets to just come see the car show and spectators are free. Because this show is going to be pretty elaborate, we decided to start parking cars around 6:30 in the morning and start the show earlier as well.

Nashville has it's problems with flood damage but should not affect our convention plans. My picks for local bars downtown include; Legends Corner and 2nd Fiddle for ambiance, Coyote Ugly and Stage on Broadway for dancing, and the quitessential dive bar with GREAT music - Full Moon Saloon. Here are some web sites for Honky Tonk Row:

  • 1 month later...

Had not hit this thread in a while. Yea, we're at three weeks or so. It will be good to see you again, Ron. Your car will show well with Nissan's decision to promote their racing heritage of the Z. The autocross and track day will be fun with both Morton and Millen at the convention.
