IGNORED

What int. color was the most rare

Not sure that there has ever been a breakdown with the actual production numbers of each interior color. If there is it would be interesting to see the actual numbers.

Red and blue would probably be the rarest of the earlier interior colors. The vast majority were black, with tan being one of the next most popular colors.

It is odd being a red interior and red exterior, most red interiors I have seen in person have been with the silver exterior and white exterior colors.

Is there a site or book or anything that I kind put in my vin and or door plate and get a breakdown of the factory configuration?

I just want to make sure that the Red on Red was original. I mean the car can be seen in my photo gallery. Take a look and let me know if this was a rebuild, but I have gone over this car with a fine tooth comb and I have am simply amazed. I purchased this car for $900.00 in Seattle, WA and drive it back to TX last week. 2274 miles in 2 1/2 days.

This is an interesing subject to get into, as interior is so hard to chase if it is not black. I have beige as the interior in my 73 z with the outer as Red (110).

I found a chart that cross references colour of interior to external colour. Publication SM5E-0S30G0, the S30 chassis and body.

Color number Body color Upholstrey/interior color

1. 110 Red Black,Beige

2. 214 Brown Metalic Black,Coffee Brown

3. 216 White Black,Coffee Brown

4. 240 Dark Green Metallic Black,Beige,Coffee Brown

5. 301 Bronze Metalic Black,Coffee Brown

6. 302 Leaf Green Metallic Black,Beige,Coffee Brown

7. 304 Gold Metalic Black,Beige,Coffee Brown

8. 305 Light Blue Metalic Black,Beige

9. 306 Silver Metalic Black,Coffee Brown

10. 307 Blue Metalic Black,Beige

11. 362 Dark Purple Metalic Black,Coffee Brown

I think this covers 1974 and on but I am not sure if it relates to vehicles destined for America. As for the frequency of interior colours, no idea, a car sequence five bodies after mine also red (110) had black interior. If someone can find the early production color to interior chart, please share it with us.

Well sorry to tell you this, but it looks like the exterior color is not original. Looking at the engine bay is the biggest clue, if it were original it would be the same color as the exterior. Looks like the engine bay was repainted black, but I see what looks like possibly silver underneath the black on top of the strut tower on the drivers side.

For positive proof, look under the floor mats and see what color is under there or in behind the kick panels or the front of the floor pans under the heater near the firewall. This will more than likely still be the original color as most times people don't do a complete job of changing the colors.

But, it still looks like a really nice car, so even if it isn't original you still have a decent car to work with. The interior looks pretty good with only a little fading of the plastic panels and vinyl. Most cars of this age have been re-painted at least once in their life, so an original color factory paint job is very hard to find as most people end up picking a color they like better than what the factory offered.

Z Sled,

You probably have a repaint. I don't ever remember seeing an original red body with anything other than the blk or off wht interior. Just look behind the door panels of under the dash, etc and you will probably find the original color. There may still be the paint code sticker under the hood as well - but don't count on it.

2ManyZ's you said the magic words. I pulled up the carpet today and the whole interior under the carpets is silver. I personally like the silver better than red. Greattttttt! I used to belong to a Mustang community rebuilding a 69 mustang coupe and they kept me going with all the answers to my questions.

As they did before you guys are coming through for me today. Thanks guys. Now to get it to the body shop for paint Back to Silver. BTW this car has only minor rust on the rear deck panel of the rear hatch. It actually lines up with the rubber plugs on the rear hatch. is this a fairly easy panel to replace or should I concentrait on the rust holes themselves and cut and bondo. The rust section on both sides would be the size of a 2 inch cirlce.:D

If the rust is just in a small area under the hatch on the flat panel, I would try to cut it out and have a patch panel put in. The panel is available I believe but if you don't have to replace the whole thing there is no reason to cut it all out. You can't get a complete panel as it is the whole rear of the car all the way to the bottom, but patch panels are available if I remember correctly. Just can't remember who has them right at the moment. :stupid:

Silver with the red interior is one of my more favorite color combinations.

Since your car still looks pretty good, I think you might want to just do the rust repairs and concentrate on the mechanical side of the car for a bit. As long as you don't have to worry about rust problems you are ahead of most new Z owners in that respect. And as long as the car looks good on the outside, fix the things that need to be fixed for the time being. Unless you are like some of us who can't resist tearing a car apart....:cross-eye

Good luck.

Welcome Zsled,

Interior colors is an area that I am interested in also, but have not been able to find any real documentation on it. I have a 70, with a blue interior, and I was told that blue was the second most rare color. It is cool to have a rare color, but it is a real bite trying to find parts. I have been looking for a new blue OEM drivers door panel for 4 yrs now.

From what I have gathered, I think the order of rarity goes something like this:

White

Blue

Tan

Red

Black

By the way, I was in Seattle on October 28 and wanted to go look at that car. I was informed that it had just been sold. Now we know who got it!!! The pictures look pretty good. And you said it only have rust on the back ledge and that is it? What is the rest of the car like: milage, interior, paint, etc.? It sounded like a steal for $900.
