Posted March 15, 201015 yr comment_312516 So while working on the heater I inadvertently grabbed onto the glove box door and broke most of it off. Does anyone know how to fix said broken door. The "Hing" is where it is broken its torn about 90%. Any advise would be great. Jan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35054-oh-no/ Share on other sites
March 15, 201015 yr comment_312517 Don't know if it can be fixed but the inserts for the 240 are still available. Maybe the 280 insert is too. I think they were fairly cheap too, maybe $30 bucks if I remember correctly. There are a bunch of used ones on ebay right now for about 15 bucks if interested.http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=280z+glove+box&_sacat=0&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_odkw=240z+glove+box&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313Good luckJohn Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35054-oh-no/#findComment-312517 Share on other sites
March 15, 201015 yr comment_312533 Bummer! Thats a tough fix because it is a plastic hinge that just flexes along a joint and not a typical hinge. I have wondered about the same thing because its 40 year old plastic and my is starting to split some. I have not seen any new ones. I don't have any suggestions yet but will check with my brother who is a design engineer and may be able to help. March 15, 201015 yr comment_312537 One alternative I thought of would be replacing it with a piano type hinge. I am at work and cant look at my glovebox but you can purchase hinges in different size length and widths, with or without holes. Mcmastercarr.com has a variety of hinges for all kinds of applications. There may be more sources, this is just what I know. carl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35054-oh-no/#findComment-312537 Share on other sites
March 15, 201015 yr comment_312539 I have a door that I fixed some time ago. I used some small (1" wide) hinges and pop rivets. You just need to cut out two areas on the metal sleeve(?) that goes over the section of hinge attached to the dash so the hinges sit flush. Sorry about the rust, but this has been sitting in my garage for a while. March 16, 201015 yr comment_312580 I likely have a good 280z glove box door with a decent hinge. Drop me a note to z240@shaw.ca and I'll dig it up tomorrow. Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35054-oh-no/#findComment-312580 Share on other sites
