1975 fairladyz

Inputs or comments on a fairlady z? One for sale up here, not completely stock as I would prefer, aftermarket wheels, seats, whale tail added. 82000 miles. a daily driver. Many upgrades, electrical upgraded, new fuelpump, nissan disc brake upgrade in the back, suspension powdercoated. fuel injected. restored 15yrs ago and babied ever since. a GT model...never seen that?

Seller lost his job and needs the cash....(big layoffs with a major employer up here so I beleive him)

so not a car for the enthusiast who likes 'orignal' but very nicely put together...any input? comments? concerns?

He's asking about $10k canadian....seems like a lot of $$?

nope its left hand.

I questioned the GT badge. I've never seen it. He assures me its legit and not a very common model, which is half the reason I'm on this forum. I'm no 240z expert but I've googled the heck out of a 1975 fairlyady z gt and nothing comes up.

He's telling me its a 'racing version'. Bigger fuel filler (you can fit your fist in the neck), headers etc....also fuel injected...not seen that before either...

no such thing as a gt model though?

does the fairlady z come in a left drive, headers and a larger fuel neck, injected as any kind of model? perhaps somebody stuck the gt badge on over the years?

I'll be sure to question him more on the gt badge next time I see it...any other input?

thanks!

How difficult is it to get some pictures and look into some specific details? The fuel injection, is it a stock configuration or a modified such as mega squirt? Is the suspension stock or does it have coil overs? A picture of the GT badge and location would be interesting.

Sounds to me like a 75 280z that someone has put some candy on to dress it up. My buddy's 75 has the large filler that my 72 240 has. At some point 280z, at least in the states, went to the smaller fuel neck for emmissions (vapor loss and so on).

If it is a 75 280, it is worth what you are willing to pay for it. Down here (northern Idaho), they sell for about $2000 as a daily driver, and not a heck of a lot more glamorized). Of course the amendments could add or detract value, depending on what they are and how well they were done. Never heard of a GT in any Z but it has been pointed out I have a hearing problem sometimes

is or is not worth 10k? you indicated it is worth 10k but that a daily driver down there is 2k... :)

has fairladyz badge on the side front fenders...does that tell us anything? is that a derivative of a 240 or a 280? I only assumed 240...but as you can tell I don't know much about these cars, just that I've always admired them from afar....now I'm learing. :)

I'll try to get some pics shortly. I'd be curious to see what you guys have to say about it one way or the other :)

btw I'm told the injection is stock...1st year for it?

thanks.

First of all, these is no such thing as "GT" model, nor, "GT" budge.

Secondly, there was no "280Z" in Japan between 75-78. If you say "280Z" in Japan, that indecated the car is "280ZX" 79-83 here in US by the way.

Now, there were follwomng models back then,

Fairlady Z

Fairlady Z-L

Fairlady 240Z

Fairlady 240ZG

If you show us the pictures and VIN, I can identify which model it is.

:D

There were no Left hand Drive Farilady Z's. Its possible it was converted to LHD by a previous owner, but I doubt it. Fairlady Z badge was reserved for the Japanese market, which is a RHD country.

One sure way to tell is the chassis number. If its starts with HLS30 the car is a fraud.

It's more likely that is it is a 260Z or 280Z that he, or a previous owner has slapped Farilady Z badges on in some misguided belief that the 260/280Z is the same as a JDM Fairlady Z or Fairlady 240Z.

Big fuel fillers were standard on the early Z's. Nothing special there. Headers are not stock, but were available after market or from Nissan.

I bet the GT badge is from some other car.

I agree with the last post. First thing that drew my mind was lack of the original S20 engine, or Fairlady Z engine in Japan incase you didn't know that. Is the engine a inline 6 or something else? Sounds like someone played around on ebay and bought a GT badge from a Skyline GT-R and a set of Fairladies too. NOT worth $10,000 unless you plan to put it all back to JDM stock, even then it has to be SUPER LOW VIN car for that price. Oh yeah, and it also helps to know that some of the members here know the actual guys who designed AND built the Z car and they never designed nor built a "GT Fairlady Z".

thanks for the input all. My next step is to talk to him again and just see how he's representing the car. If he swears up and down its a fairlady I'll be walking away - obviously misrepresenting it, or he doesn't know himself...both cases I'm not wild about.

I'll still see if I can get some pics and vin number. I'm curious (with all of your help) to find out what it actually is. If nothing else its a nice looking rig I'll give him credit for that.

ok got some pics.

sure enough its a 1975 280z with farilady badges, as well as a gtr badge. Owner still seems to think their original but i have doubts (from your info)

converted rear drums to maxima disc brakes, original mechanical fuel injection, factory headers, aftermarket wheels and racing seats.

probably not the ideal car for a collector looking for an 'original'.

biggest thing it needs is paint.

not a big fan of the whale tale... :(
