Sorry,sorry,sorry......You're right it's the rod that is different not the the pin height. The rod on the L28 is 130.2 mm vs. 133.0mm on the L24. Could you indeed build this combo of an L24 crank and rods in an L28 with L28 pistons?

You know when you read something sometimes and you just go Huh? Its cool.

As you can see, building an engine with 2.4 crank and rods with L28 slugs in a L28 block can be done quite easily!

Capacity is 2575 cc's or 157.1 cu's Bore it 40 thou and you get 2636 cc's and 160.8 cu's

With an N42/N42 engine, it yeilds 7.8 compression......fantastic high boost/high rev turbo engine right there. N42 has big valves. Could use a P90 with flat top L28 pistons for 8.0 comp. ratio. R/s ratio @ 1.8. Great!

Going back to normally aspirated, flat tops with the N42 head gives 9.27 compression.

Stock HG's and bore with the above combo's.

Now, go build. ;)

It's kinda old thread, but I just want to share with you that my z has the L28 short-stroke setup: N42 block + 280ZX flat pistons + L24 crank + L24 rods + N42 head. The compression is 9.5:1 with 1mm thick Felpro head gasket. This can be built with all stock parts and it's very easy. I have been running this setup with a lighten flywheel and triple carbs and I love it!! With .6mm thick metal head gasket MSA carries, a 10.0:1 compression can be had without shaving any metal, but it's a little pricey item..

LD28 has the taller block, hence it requires the taller timing chain cover. The covers are all interchangeable on the L24/L26/L28 because they block heights are the same.

Awesome! Keep me in mind when you finish! I'm going the E31 route with a lot of head work. Also larger valves (45/36). And a custom built cam from Isky. I can't wait for this motor to sing!
