Posted March 25, 201015 yr comment_313658 I just got my Z out for a drive through the mountains. With the driver's window down there is a strong odor from the exhaust. Any idea about where that might be coming from? I have inspected the ehaust system and it seems to be in good shape, not holes or breaks. Any ideas are welcomed. From my experience this is true. With both windows down I have many less exhaust smells. I am chasing down my exhaust fume sources as well. March 25, 201015 yr comment_313675 You might do a search on this issue as it has been covered many times. Having said this, take a dollar bill and close it between the hatch and the rubber seal and see if it seals tight all the way around. If not, this is likely a source. Tail light gaskets is another good possibility, also look at the bottom area below the evap tank on the passenger side and below the antenna. Both places have openings either for drains or hoses. This is a start. Another thing, if the vent hose from the valve cover has been removed and a after market filter used instead , this is another source.Gary:beer: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35188-exhaust-leak/#findComment-313675 Share on other sites
March 26, 201015 yr comment_313718 Lewis-I agree with Beandip - I just changed out my air filters to the original air breather and reconnected all the hoses along with the air flow valve ......... I removed all the K&N Filters from the breather and the crankcase and made the correct connections - I have not fired my car up but will next week (I live in the 3500' snow belt in NC) - I'm sure my car is going to be more powerful (due to the air horns) and less smell in the interior as well. I did also replace some grommets in the firewall.Have you adjusted your carbs - are they burning rich generating that heavy fuel smell and smoke?
