Posted November 9, 200222 yr comment_18593 Ok Guys, In the morning I am pulling the 5spd out of 75 280 and installing it into my 72 240 is this pretty painless? Anything speacial I need to do to acomplish this. Second,I am have some oil leak out of the rear main of the engine on the 72 240. I previously owned a 69 mustand with a 351w in it. I was able to replace the rear main without pulling the engine apart. Is this possible on the L24 with the tranny out. November 9, 200222 yr comment_18648 I just rebuilt my L28 and getting the main out in the first place was a pain in the butt. You're supposed to use a special tool according to factory service manuals, but I was able to do it with some 2x4s and a crow bar. You'll need alot of leverage to get it out. Once you get it out, the seals themselves are no big deal.Removing the engine might be a better option becouse it would make oil pan removal easier (The area around the front suspention it kinda tight) and the whole leverage thing removing the main itself. And since you're already there, it'd be a great time to check the bearings on the other caps, the crankshaft, possibly the rings, etc. Just my opinion,FROZN Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3534-tranny-and-engine-swap-questions/#findComment-18648 Share on other sites
