C Gra Z Posted April 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2010 Anyone know of a car club for Z cars in Ventura County? I have a 1978, beautiful 280Z that I love and would like to get together with other Z owners. I am a loyal customer of the best Z mechanic there is and would like to share information with any Z owners in my area.-Chris
tlorber Posted April 20, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2010 I don't know of one, but I'd go. I'm in the west valley and it seems that most clubs are in the Inland Empire or Orange County.
260zCaliCar Posted April 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2010 If we get enough people, we can start our own little "club". I'd be in... I'm in Westlake Village. Any of you going down to Orange this weekend for the MSA event (not sure what to call it... Not the West Coast Nationals...) If so, we can meet up! C Gra Z Posted May 5, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted May 5, 2010 I have no idea how to organize a Z club or what we'd do. I was thinking of getting together to gawk at eachothers cars and maybe exchange info. Anyone have any ideas? I'm open to any suggestions.

Get everyone together and gather ideas about what you all want it to be and what you want to do. May turn out to be that you'll have a contact list so that when someone gets a wild hair for a fun run, ya light up the internet, meet somewhere on a Saturday morning and head out. I think a lot of clubs suffer from their own weight. Too much structure and too few willing to put in the effort long term.
jmortensen Posted May 5, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 5, 2010 There used to be a Central Coast Z Car Club that was basically run by Steve McConnell. He got into Porsches and racing and I think it kinda fizzled out, but Mark Belrose from Lompoc and others in the area were involved for a while. I went to one of their get togethers on the way down to LA from San Luis Obispo which was held in Avila Beach. Basically just a bunch of car guys in a parking lot with their hoods popped BSing and checking out each other's cars. If that's what you want to do I'd suggest starting a Yahoo group or similar and then just find a restaurant in a relatively central location and ask them if it would be all right to have a meet there. Especially if you eat lunch there, chances are they would appreciate the business and there you have it. No frills, low cost, easy to do. You'll probably get a couple racers showing up who try to get people out to an autocross or a track day (maybe Mark or Steve), couple guys who do real car shows, Roadster or 510 guys, etc. Just don't try to make everything a big production, and it should work out fine. C Gra Z Posted May 5, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted May 5, 2010 I just talked to Steve! I got his number from the Central coast club. He said basically the same thing you did. Thanks!
tlorber Posted May 5, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 5, 2010 I'm good for some local 3-4 hour drives. Shouldn't be to hard to put together. I'm all for the theory that the lower the production, the more likely it is to happen.
DeMoore Posted May 5, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 5, 2010 I'm in LA County and I've been wanting to find one good club to meet with other than just the MSA meet, count me in if anything get's put together. Covina, CA
Bruce Palmer Posted May 5, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 5, 2010 MSA is alright but basically another "park your arse in the grass" deal. Maybe dime owners are different but there seems to much more willingness to get involved in driving. There were 44 510s at the Mitty in GA last weekend "driven" from Canada, Kansas, Ohio, New Hampshire, Texas, Florida and all points in between. And they'll autocross once they get there and drive home.Out in the hills around Ventura there are some great roads to drive spiritedly and I'd think that should be an easy sell...... We at Datsuns Northwest have several spirited driving events each year. We also host the autocross in conjunction with CANBY. Northwest Z on the other hand does winery tours and the like...... Just pick your poison.Again, getting those interested people together will answer which camp y'all will be in......
260zCaliCar Posted May 6, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 6, 2010 I'm in for a meet anywhere between Ventura Harbor and Glendale. I think the best plan is to just pick a date and a place, then see how many people will commit. How about Sunday May 16th? I'll let someone else pick a location. First meet can just be a get together... Not necessarily a drive, but that would be fun also.
