Posted April 23, 201015 yr comment_317000 After sitting 16 years, and now 7 weeks of going through many engine related things, it fired up today. After warmed up I checked the compression and cylinders 1-5 are right at 170psi, #6 is 135. Hoping maybe a little grit on a valve seat will work its way off. Readjusted the valves and got another 5psi. Still have some carb adjusting to do... This web site has been invaluable, esp. the "waking the sleeper.." threads. Had to have tank boiled and POR'd, replaced all rubber fuel lines, fuel pump and filter, ZT carbs, all coolant hoses, cleaned all elec contacts. Thought it was ready yesterday but wouldn't fire up, ended up the points were bad. New set today and it fired up with large bellows of smoke (all the old muck, degreaser, ATF to free the valves, etc..). After that all burned out the tail pipe looked fairly clear. Ah, the smell of an old engine coming to life! Now complete brake overhaul, (hopefully not another 7 weeks!) then out for a drive.
