Posted April 27, 201014 yr comment_317322 I have to come to evidence that with all the good care I gave them since I owned my Z, the desert climate is making its toll...........mostly on the driver's side. It is mostly dry and hard.Who make the best reproductions and are they a pain to replace?Which interior moldings have to be removed to do the job?Is there a particular profile for the 72 Z and do they snap on place or need to be glued? April 29, 201014 yr Author comment_317582 door weatherstripping and the MacMaster-Carr option, I am not convinced that both are perfect fit to look as original as possible for an original never restored S30. Slamming doors after installing a new weatherstrip set doesn't make sense to me.The best comment I found in this matter is about the Black Dragon kit and I ordered one. The price is right and I will see how it will fit.Now.......to install a new set of door weatherstrips, is is necessary to remove some of the inner inside mouldings as the plastic "U" cap/finisher around the cabin and the inner plastic threshold moulding mounted with three Philips screws? April 29, 201014 yr comment_317595 You might want to re-read the kia sportage thread....Specifically the comments by zCars & Darrel. Its the aftermarket weatherstrip made by Precision that has the door fitment / door slam problem on S30's. (Typically what black dragon sells) This issue has been well documented on all the zcar sites over the years. April 29, 201014 yr comment_317630 Installing the weather stripping...yes, you will have to remove the plastic "U" cap/finisher. It is what holds the weather-stripping to your car. I believe it is made out of metal and coated in vinyl. It pinches over the weather-stripping and holds it in place. On the bottom of the door, the scuff-plate with three screws kind of holds the weather-stripping in place. I cant recall if there was a flap on the weatherstripping that secured under the scuff plate with 3 screws...there might have been. It was a while ago. You should not need to apply any sort of RTV or weatherstripping adhesive. The U-trim should hold it all in place. It's pretty self-explanatory once you have it in front of you. It took me a total of 30-40 minutes to replace both sides. April 29, 201014 yr comment_317643 i went with soem kia sportage stripping ($5 from junkyard from a recently wrecked one in good shape) and i did use adhesive. big improvement. no slamming required. requires trimming down to size and aligning the corner bit in the corner. that was all.
