1976 ecm

I need some help.

My stock ECM for 1976 was burnt so I ordered a used one off of ebay.

The part number (green color sticker) on the ECM matches the stock. ( A11 600 000)

But the pin settings are different.

TOP - Stock

BOTTOM - eBay replacement

Can I use this or do I need to find something with a same pin set?

oh oh. The FSM shows there are quite a few pins not used on that one side, but there are two (21 20) that you need and that one has missing. The first 6 on the top right are 30-35 to the injectors, then two not used (28, 29), then 27 to the IAT in the AFM which is there, but 21 to the cold start and 20 to the efi relay are clearly missing. Now are they required? Maybe not. I'de plug it in and have a go.

Get the FSM from www.xenons30.com and check it out. Section EF pages EF-25-50

I'll go check my spares and see if any of them have the same pin absense issue. All were working. Need one? Send me a PM

I have that exact unit (the top one) in my spares. I pulled it from a running but wrecked 76 about three years ago. Missing pins won't fry anything, it just won't work/run properly. I've never seen one for an S30 missing all the pins on that side (29-35). Some of the 810s and 910s (Maxima) are set up that way but those units should never be used in a 78 or earlier vehicle. If Jim doesn't have one send me a PM.

Well, of the three A11 600 000 units I have, 2 out of the 3 have the same absent pins that you see on one of yours. I can vouch that they were in running 280z's.

With Mr. Blake chiming in with encouraging words, I'de plug it in and see if she flies. Little chance of harm.

If you want mine with all the pins, just let me know.

From memory, the unit with the missing terminals won't work as a replacement as the sensor input wiring for the air flow meter switch and cold start valve is handled differently.

You won't fry anything but the car won't start, so you might give it a try to check what happens.

I found this thread while doing some research on the HellFire ECU replacement design. I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to clear up some misinformation. The basics are below. More wiring details are buried in this thread. (http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/fuel-injection-s30/49964-zfuel.html)

ALL ECUs from 75-77 will work in any car from 75-77 regardless of how many pins the ECU has. In fact many of these pins are not even connected internal to the ECU, they just happen to be on the connector. The confusion comes from the fact that if you look at the schematics, you will see wiring such as the wire from the fuel pump relay to pin20 present which makes one think there is a difference. However, once again in NONE of the ECUs (even the ones with all the pins) are these terminals connected internal to the ECU.

For 1978 things changed a little on the fuel pump relay/AFM contacts, but I'm not 100% on the ECU exchange at this point so I don't want to comment either way for now. When I have that information accurate, I'll post back here.

For 1979-up, the ECUs are NOT a drop in for the early FI Zs. I'm also not up to speed on these yet either.
