May 13, 200519 yr comment_123648 ...I have to agree that shipping and "Empty" gas tank is VERRRRY close to shipping a bomb. I won't even try to argue with you on that. When I was in the military, I was an explosives expert and got to "play" with lots of stuff . My spare tank has been void of fuel for quite some time (not even any vapours) so shipping it won't be a problem. May 13, 200519 yr comment_123653 One of the gas tank repair places I visited yesterday instructs you to remove the fuel vapors by running your exhaust through the tank...? May 14, 200519 yr comment_123690 that makes no sense tomohawk- wouldn't that add exhaust vapors??and anyways, how much would all this cost. I know powercoating is $$$$$$$ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/357-gas-tank-restoration/?&page=2#findComment-123690 Share on other sites
May 14, 200519 yr comment_123692 I think that the hot exhaust would get the gasoline to vaporize better, and just make it smell less like gasoline. May 14, 200519 yr comment_123696 Exhaust vapor coming in forces out Oxigen and gasoline vapors!Sealing up all but the vent line after tossing in a block of dry ice will do the same thing only better, co2 is heavier than air especially when cold! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/357-gas-tank-restoration/?&page=2#findComment-123696 Share on other sites
May 14, 200519 yr comment_123697 wouldn't a blow dryer do the same as the exhaust? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/357-gas-tank-restoration/?&page=2#findComment-123697 Share on other sites
May 14, 200519 yr comment_123699 Almost-the blow dryer is forcing ambient air into the tank, the exhaust is forcing a much lower concentration of oxigen and a much higher concentration of carbon monoxide into the tank because the air from the engine has used some of it oxigen to burn gasoline leaving inflamable(given the engine was properly tuned) fumes. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/357-gas-tank-restoration/?&page=2#findComment-123699 Share on other sites

May 14, 200519 yr comment_123702 Are you sure you hooked the exhaust to the right opening... Breathe deep, the feeling will go away... Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/357-gas-tank-restoration/?&page=2#findComment-123702 Share on other sites
