Posted May 1, 201014 yr comment_317838 Mine came with some mess of a thing that was a frankenstein of several other brackets and some alternator that didn't fit (thus, I guess, the homemade alternator "bracket"). The set up wobbled and shook so bad it was the first thing I took off when I got it home. Anyway, to the point- I don't think I have an original bracket (what I have is in my pics) for reference. I've been looking for a pic of just the bracket(s) with no luck. There are no 240s at the yard but there are two 260zs and a 280z. Will either of those brackets work? The replacement alternator is too wide to fit in the bracket- and I'm not sure, actually, with that in mind, which part is the wrong one. May 1, 201014 yr Author comment_317864 huh. yah that ain't what i have. That's all there is? what goes into the three bolt holes on the block by the alt? What came out were three sliders similar to this (they were all flat, though, without the bend) and the piece in my pics. Crap I wish the local yards were open on Sundays. May 1, 201014 yr comment_317877 April, there should be a cast bracket that bolts to the block. That bracket is mostly the same for all Zs and ZXs, I believe. So if you can find a 280ZX ('79-83) in the yards down there, that should work. May 1, 201014 yr comment_317886 And I must learn to read more thoroughly and post with additional details. Here are pictures of the lower bracket that mounts with two 10mmx 1.25 bolts and one 10x1.25 stud (upper right). It has two 8x1.25 mm threaded holes for bolts that pass through the alternator body tabs and into this bracket. May 10, 201014 yr comment_319048 You mentioned in your first posting that there were two 260s in the Bone yard. They should have what you need. Good luck, Gary Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35716-240z-alternator-bracket/#findComment-319048 Share on other sites
May 10, 201014 yr Author comment_319069 Thanks Gary! Yeah, all the Zs at the yard had the brackets we needed. I think they're all 280s now that I've been out there a few times and combed them over for stuff. Shame they all have decent bodies but the engines and interiors are just picked over. Guy says they're probably headed for the crusher in a few months. It'll probably be a while before any more show up Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35716-240z-alternator-bracket/#findComment-319069 Share on other sites
