Why would the original steering column vs aftermarket make a difference in handling?
Not sure why the stock steering column is considered a hindrance to turning. Mine seems to work fine...

After reading this thread a few years back, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25012, I assumed the amount of steal on the steering shafts and the undersized U-Joints were a problem in racing. If Jon isn't seeing a problem, no one probably is! I'm no racer...

That car has dual master cylinders. Very common in racing as they allow you to actually proportionally affect the braking bias (a "proportioning" valve does not). Vacuum assisted boosters don't work real well on race motors because they don't produce much vacuum. Plus it's another potential failure in the system. So these are just as effective, less prone to breakage, more tunable, and simpler. Better, better, better, and better than stock brakes. Here's more info on that if you're interested.

And here are a couple of modified stock pedal boxes for dual master cylinders:

Thanks for digging those links up Jon, great read (as usual!).

You may have a point there. Mine has aftermarket U-joints on it. Someone posted on Hybrid Z a couple days ago about a guy in AZ who has found an ATV U-joint that replaces the stocker if it's worn out. I couldn't find the thread, but I'm sure someone else saw it.

The Primadonna Z would have been a great car to have... in 1985, and I'd even hazzard to say that it might be fun to drive today. But the beauty of the classic Z is that it is timeless. I suppose that's what makes a classic a classic.

If I had 100K to re-live the 80's it wouldn't be spent on this car. I think I'd save a few bucks and buy an A-team van, or a Fallguy 4x4 or the Marty McFly's Toyota.

Just in the 80's? I still want an A-Team van and Marty McFly's Toyota!
