David, I think you hit it spot on. The two IMSA race cars you showed photos of, were popular enough that AFX-Aurora made Slot Car models out of them and featured them in several race track kits. Those same slot car bodies are still popular and in demand.

Unfortunately, the "collective" mindset is not allowed to see past the un-molested original bodystyle to the possibilities of design modifications.

For me it's not a "purist" perspective. I just think it's pug-ugly...

Just my opinion.

Case in point. My wife and I often attend the Hillsborough antique show. There are some who will pay ten's of thousands for something I consider to be abominable.
