Posted May 12, 201014 yr comment_319368 A little background on me before you think I'm crazy... I've been a pilot since the age of 16. So from an early age the use of check lists has been instituted into anything that I do that is of importance. I've also built and test flown my own (as well as others) aircraft. So developing check-lists and test cards is just something that I do. For example I have an extensive check list for the annual condition inspection on my aircraft. I find it useful and it gives me piece of mind knowing that I haven't forgotten anything. So with that information, I've put together a little engine check list for a tune-up on the 240Z engine. I figured that it might be of use to others so I've attached it here for others to use. I'm also putting together an annual condition inspection check list and could use the input of others. The type of information I'm looking for are: Things to lube Things to inspect Things to replace I will collect the data and put it into a logical flow, and then post it for the benefit of everyone. By posting, you've entered my world of "everything needs a checklist" or what my wife calls my world of crazy Welcome to my world. 240Z Tune-up Check List.pdf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35872-check-list/ Share on other sites
May 12, 201014 yr comment_319374 My husband will surely appreciate this. I tend to be on the "scattered" side, and my version of organization is probably a brain-melter for him or anyone else with a logical, methodical preference for doing things. My list of things the Z needs for repairs and lists of procedures is surely maddening, being written on grimy paper in whatever pen is at hand with arrows and numbers and circles everywhere. I had been looking for a good maintenance log for a while and ended up making a spreadsheet to use and it works, but that's all. May 13, 201014 yr comment_319451 Wow that is a great start with the engine check list. My Toyota FJ on line has this type of list for every service interval, they are a great help. Some things to add I found:The vacuum advance plate in the distributor needs to be cleaned every other year. The groves worn into the plate seems to collect junk that makes it stick over time.Oil all the linkages, grease the fittings, check alternator power (especially if your running an original), adjust belt tension, replace thermostat every other year, adjust the clutch throwout rod yearly, check drive-line shaft torques yearly, clean out worn brake and clutch fluid, ever other year check voltage regulator, check battery fluidI know their is more I check this is what I didn't see on the list from the top of my hear Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/35872-check-list/#findComment-319451 Share on other sites

May 13, 201014 yr comment_319509 OK I know pilots on their inspections border on OCD, but that is to be expected since we don't want you falling out of the sky. Your going to haft to bare with me, I made a check list years a go then I got a computer virus that damaged the OS so bad that I rebooted the computer. Well in the process of reloading my personal files off the backup hard-drive it burnt out this was something I lost:cry: That is why I have two backup drives and a online backup. I even made a torque sheet for the under side of the car which I checked every year. 40 year bolts that have been taken out a time or two can have a little play so they can workout over time, not good.Other things I thought of is a suspension fastener check list, mine had a picture I drew with arrows pointing to the fastener points with torque numbers and a check box near each one. Now I might be the OCD oneLOL I'd do this one the diff fasteners also the are notorious for loosening up and they cause damage that is expensive to repair, unless you like the diff clunks that are synonymous with 240Z's.
