Hey just bought a 1977 280z. I know absolutly nothing about these cars. Any advice would be helpfull. I live in the hiram/powdersprings area. If anyone is in the area and wants to help me out lmk. I cant wait to get it running. Right now I need to replace the ignition. The previous owners lost the key so cut some wires and now I get to try and make sense of it. LOL I've also been told since the car has sat since 2001 than the gas tank will need to be replaced, or cleaned. Anyone have any pionters on where I can buy a ignition and clean gas tank?

Welcome and congrats on the car!

POR15 makes a great kit for cleaning and coating gas tanks. Lots of good success reported on this forum over the years. Lots of places sell it on the net. I got mine through Amazon.com.

What part of the ignition are you looking for?

The whole key part, but the problem is that the it looks like they tried to hot wire it so I probably will end up getting that part of the harness too. I've got a lot to learn with this thing but hopefully should have it running in a few weeks

Used wiring harness - Z Barn (Be patient with Roger. He doesn't rush, but he'll get back to you.)

Gas tank cleaning - Siphon out any fuel you can. After that, raise the back end and put a container under the tank. You'll find a drainplug on the bottom of the tank. Loosen the holding straps on the tank. Remove filler hose, vent hoses, and fuel lines. Drop the tank and take it to a radiator shop. Take compressed air and blow out the fuel lines from the engine side back toward the tank.

Above all, get a copy of the FSM.

Try a locksmith shop first for the key. A good one should be able to reproduce the key from the lock you have.

If you need the harness, definitely use Roger at ZBarn. Definitely need to be patient since he's a one-man band. Just be aware tho, he has a tendency to UNDERSTATE the condition of the parts he supplies. Part he said was 'good' looked near new to me.

Heard a lot of good things about the POR tank treatment, but have been looking at

lately and have read some good reviews.

If you need motvation go by Eddie Radatz's shop in Kennesaw, his number can be found using the search function, I'd be surprised if he didn't have some ignition parts laying around somewhere.

You may be able to take your tank to a radiator repair shop, some of them also recondition gas tanks, Eddie would know.
