Posted November 12, 200222 yr comment_18892 Ok we've all seen various 250GTO kits in various degrees of good/bad taste, some still running on 260Z alloys etc.Can anyone tell me if there was ever a 275GTB kit? This seems to be much more like a Z and I would imagine it would be a heck of a lot easier to convert - the car even has the fared-in lights like a G-nose!Anyone?ps I wouldn't change my impending 240 for one - honest!Sean Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3590-ferrari-kits/ Share on other sites
November 12, 200222 yr comment_18897 havn't seen any 275 kits (based on a z or not) the only other old Ferrari kit I have seen is a 250 california (still not based on a z though) http://www.calspyder.com/The 250 GTO kit isn't that hard to do (it has fared-in lights too), I don't see any more similarites in a 275 than a 250 to help in construction. You could always ask one of these guys to build you a shell:http://www.finesportscar.com/HistoryFSC.htmlhttp://www.factoryfive.com/table/company/tour/phototour/250gto.htmlhttp://www.vongenaddidesign.com/metal.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3590-ferrari-kits/#findComment-18897 Share on other sites
November 13, 200222 yr comment_18912 I must ask why the hell people wanna butcher up a superb car such as the all mighty 240Z/260Z and make it into a fake ferrari? I would love a ferrari (Dont get me wrong) but i cannot afford it (like so many other people) thus i own the next best thing - a 240Z. Everytime i see a hacked-up fake ferrari i really do wonder in amazement as to why......... Horses for courses i guess...... November 13, 200222 yr comment_18917 Being different! that's all their is about it I think. So why not going with a Ferrari Kit if it's your trip. I too think that the GTO isn't the best Ferrari to duplicate(remember that the kit came out during the crazy overvalued days of the GTO mania). I once saw a Cobra Coupé replica that was more appealing to my tastes. November 13, 200222 yr comment_18926 I saw a Ferrari Daytona kit on a 280ZX in an US advertising as well as Cobras and even a Cobra Daytona Coupe.I thought myself about adapting a 240Z to a Ferrari 250 SWB shape.I think this is not very difficult but in the end I decided for me that the original japanese design is the best. Nevertheless the SWB idea is still challenging.Rolf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3590-ferrari-kits/#findComment-18926 Share on other sites
November 13, 200222 yr comment_18933 250 SWB, have never seen one of those, or were you thinking of making your own kit? 250 SWB's are by far the best Ferrari ever! November 13, 200222 yr Author comment_18940 I would never want to change a Z into a Ferrari kit - I don(t like many of 'em, Porches even less - I like being different and Zeds over here are rarer than either of these two makes! For the same reasons I don't like most British sports - cars, Alfas, Godinis... I can respect them though. But as Fred said, it's all about being different and a 275 looks like a better road car.All the books talk about Datsun looking at Porsches and E-types when trying out designs, don't you think the 240 came out more like the 275?Hey, my all time favourite is a Muira 400S and I even started checking out the kit for it but in the end even if it is an A1 replica, you know yourself that it doesn't have the soul of the original. It's still true that the only way to tell a real Stratos from a replica is to see how well the body fits together - if it's good - it's a fake!Anyone notice the black GTO kit at the beginning of the Tom Cruise film - Vanilla Sky ?Sean Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3590-ferrari-kits/#findComment-18940 Share on other sites
November 13, 200222 yr comment_18947 i did and I replayed the intro 10 times, Never got the urge to actually rent out the movie though. that looked like a Z kit as the fron't windscreen was on too much of an angle Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3590-ferrari-kits/#findComment-18947 Share on other sites
November 13, 200222 yr comment_18953 I guess it all depends opon your perspective, The Velo Rossa conversions still have the "soul" of the Z they just have the look of the Ferrari. So do you buy a car to look at or to drive it? I will build mine to drive and let everyone else look at it along with the driver inside that saved himself 11.9 million dollars.
