Posted November 13, 200222 yr comment_18942 Anyone notice the black GTO kit at the beginning of the Tom Cruise film - Vanilla Sky ? Made me think that I have forgotten how many films, TV shows and other celluloid excerpts contain Zs or ZXs.Does anyone have a running count?A good one was Top Gun when she drove her 356 and caused a 260? to brake hard. Does Tom Cruise have a fetish for Zs?Sean Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3601-filmz/ Share on other sites
November 13, 200222 yr comment_18945 I noticed it and the first thought was it figures, a kit car....Not sure, but i think I remember seeing another one in the movie, Gone in 60 Seconds. But there were so many obvious "kit cars" in that movie, it would be hard to remember...... November 14, 200222 yr comment_18962 the tomohawk Z kit replicates a shelby cobra right? well John Doe drives one in his self titled show on Fox, not sure its a Z kit, but im very sure it isnt an original the way they drive it...-Zach Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3601-filmz/#findComment-18962 Share on other sites
November 14, 200222 yr comment_19004 Those 240z shelby kits are disgusting. they dont even look like a shelby cobra. If you are gonna make a kit car, at least get a kit that looks like the original car. the proportions are all wrong. There was a guy over here in perth that made replica shelby cobras out of stainless steel. November 14, 200222 yr comment_19008 wow stainless...heavy!can anyone say Delorean?Factory Five racing makes a great shelby that you just bolt fox body (up to 93) mustang parts. Makes it easier to get mechanical parts. Also uses all the original style exterior pieces the original used (from the U.K.--A.C. parts)The ferrari kit doesn't look bad on the Z, but it's a dead give away... the ferrari had a trunk not a hatch.Nate Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3601-filmz/#findComment-19008 Share on other sites
November 14, 200222 yr comment_19020 check out the film "bring it on". During the bikini car wash fund raising scene, Kirsten Dunst can be seen washing an orange what loks to be a 280. Seriously, for what it;s worth, start catching reruns of like CHIPS or other 70's action shows. I watch them jsut for Z sightings alone. The highway car accident scenes in chips are the best. there are a ton of Z;s in traffic and it;s always moving slow so you can get a good look at them. November 15, 200222 yr comment_19099 Originally posted by CoastGuardZ wow stainless...heavy!Nate Actually there's isnt much difference between stainless and normal steel. T-430 stainless weighs the same as normal carbon steel T-304 is heavier though, but not by much. I dont know what the difference is but stainless exhaust systems becomming more common. Titanium exhaust systems are still rare, you can get them for skylines and they are very light. They guy also made normal steel cobras. They are a pretty common sight on the streets of Perth in summer. Definately more common than 240z's. November 15, 200222 yr comment_19101 The old bionic woman has been running on one channel here in finland. Atleast in one episode the lady drove a 260 or a 280 z with big bumpers.... November 15, 200222 yr comment_19106 Not that I watched the show much, but I think she drove a silver 280, that is when she wasn't "running"...... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3601-filmz/#findComment-19106 Share on other sites
November 15, 200222 yr Author comment_19110 The bionic woman is a new one for me but difficult to get repeats in France! Capricorn 1 has to be the best for a Z shot!I've seen more than enough Cobra kits in my lifetime - some even running on Rover (ex-Buick) 3.5 V8s or even Ford Cortina 2ltr engines! The best ones are of aluminium not steel though. And didn't the Delorean run on the Renault/Peugeot/Volvo (PRV)engine of 2.7 ltr V6 ? November 18, 200222 yr comment_19263 Ah yeah. My bad. Where'd I get ford V8 from? I think the were considering a ford V6 in the design stages, and even a rotary engine too. but yeah the used the Renault/Peugeot/Volvo V6 in the end. November 18, 200222 yr comment_19266 I don know if there are any of these Cobra replicas here in Finland. I doubt because there are only so few Z's here. But when it comes to taunus Cobra's it is a bit different scenario!! We have one firm that actually produces those replicas out of old Ford Taunus. There are 2,3 litre v6 and some versions are available with turbo. They do also make v8 replicas....That is a big question mark to me because it is veryvery hard to get a car with so big modifications registerd here. And if you want to make all the way with new chassis and engine and so on you have to pay new cars taxes! That is if you dont register the car as Taunus. According to our laws this kind of kitcar must have atlesa 50% of parts out of a registered donator car...You can find the firm here www.sporttiauto.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3601-filmz/#findComment-19266 Share on other sites
