If it is a vaporlock problem bypassing the front mechanical pump may help. It picks up a lot of heat from the engine. It would only cost a piece of fuel line and a couple clamps to try. My sons 260 only had the electric hooked up when we got it and it seems to run fine.

I'm not sure if it is a good idea to simply bypass the mechanical pump. I suspect if it runs without fuel to cool and lubricate it for any length of time you would run the risk of damaging it.

Your best bet would be to take the pump off of the car and block off the mount hole to the head so that you do not spray engine oil everywhere. Just my $0.02.

You can also remove the arm and internals from the pump and still pass the fuel through the pump. Still looks origional.
