Datzun76 Posted November 14, 2002 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2002 Right front of my car has started to shake lately when driving. Sometimes I have to actually hit the brakes to get it to stop. I am having the struts replaced immediately since they obviously need it. I have already had the ball joint replaced and the tie rods (I think they are called- not a mechanic) and all the bushings look fine. Is there anything else that might cause just the right front by the wheel to shake other than these items? Hoping it is just the strut.
Sonic Posted November 14, 2002 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2002 it could be the:brake rotor is warped, the bearings going bad, wheel lost balance weights, tire going bad, loose lugs, or worn-out, old rack bushingsbut most likely related to the brakes or bearings. Datzun76 Posted November 14, 2002 Author Share #3 Posted November 14, 2002 Actually I had the rotors and calipers replaced about 6 months ago. New not resurfaced. I am also getting an annoying high pitched squeal from the right front side now when I step on the brakes. Not the grinding sound you hear when the brake pads are worn down. Sonic Posted November 15, 2002 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2002 you may just want to check the rotors to see if they are warped.my car does the exact same thing once in a while when i get on the brakes when turning left. it make that funky squeal! i just don't have the time to get them resurfaced! Datzun76 Posted November 15, 2002 Author Share #5 Posted November 15, 2002 Well I took it to get fixed today. Ball joint was bad. My caliper is not working properly and they said that is why I am getting the squeal. I love my Z but it reminds of the movie the Money Pit. GunnerRob Posted November 15, 2002 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2002 Datsun76, I feel the same way as you when I have to shell out money for repairs on my '75. Then I realize that a couple hundred dollars once in awhile sure beats several hundred every month for an economy car (AKA Personal Transportation Appliance [Whitegood in the Land Down Under]). Besides, It's for a 'Z'.... baby!!!
Dreco Posted November 16, 2002 Share #7 Posted November 16, 2002 I've owned 2 z's and they both had a wheel wobble. Each time it was wheel balance. I've heard Z's are less forgiving when it comes to wheel balance. I had some tires put on my Z, and had to take it to 3 different shops before I found a place that could dial those tires in. The owner, of the place I finally took it to, is a Z enthusiast. Of coarse, my entire front end is new, so I knew it had to be wheel balance. I've had it up to 140 and never a shake.
