260zinsd Posted June 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2010 I have a 1974 260Z with 128,000 I heard these motor's are pretty strong,How many mile's can they go before a rebuild. Thanks
d240zx2 Posted June 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2010 I've seen one or two go to 300,000. But they were smoking a little bit at that stage of depreciation. Unless you want to familiarize yourself with the L26, you're probably good for at least another 60 - 75,000 without any significant issues. leftover z Posted June 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) That's an extremely tough question to answer accurately. If the previous owner(s) maintained the engine with proper oil & filter changes, and didn't drive the crap out of it, then I agree 300,000 miiles (or more) is possible. I've seen some cars that have major engine issues with only 100,000 miles. It all depends on maintenance and how hard they were driven. Just my two cents worth P.S. that is one sweet-looking 260 you have! Edited June 9, 2010 by leftover z
DeMoore Posted June 9, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2010 There was a guy at MSA with a 260z and he said that he had around 600,000 on an unrebuilt motor. It was a fairlady right hand drive. Pretty impressive, but as the previous posts said, it's all about maintenance and conservative driving. I've got over 100,000 on mine and the engine is still as strong as anything, which is pretty typical for the L series.
