June 14, 201014 yr comment_322517 Did you wash the engine bay when you washed your car? What exactly does it do when you try to start it? Does it turn over, or just not make any noise at all?Jan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36178-1978-datsun-z-wont-start-help-please/#findComment-322517 Share on other sites
June 14, 201014 yr comment_322523 If you washed the engine, then more than likely you got water in the Throttle Position Sensor connection. It would be a good exercise to remove the plug, and blow it out with compressed air. Clean the connections and follow up with some dielectric grease before plugging the harness back in. My .02 !! The light is supposed to go on at Start and go off when On, unless the floor is hot. It's in the Emission section. It's possible that you just have a low battery or bad battery connections. The relay buzzes because you don't have enough juice to activate it completely, therefore not enough juice to Start the engine. Like Ford starter relays. Buzzz, buzzz, buzzz, crap, battery's low... June 22, 201014 yr comment_323307 I had a Suburban with a starter that would refuse to stop unless I hit it with a stick.. fond memories. When you have the starter out, it's a good idea to clean the ends of the heavy cables. You can even try putting some grease on them to keep moisture from corroding them. Thinking back to the old Sub, I swapped the start twice because it wouldn't turn over... looked at the cable after a weekend long endeavor and found that the corrosion was resulting in only a couple of the wires carrying current.
