JohnnyO Posted June 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2010 I called MSA today for a weatherstrip kit and was told they have been out since early this year and won't have any until early next year. Precision (the company that makes them) damaged the molds and cannot produce them right now.I have heard that the Black Dragon kit is not quite as good so I am reluctant to purchase it. Any other suggestions for vendors that will be equal in quality, fit and comparable in price?TIA,John
motorman7 Posted June 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2010 I got the black dragon kit for my Modified Z. Only thing I wasn't happy with was the door seals. Very difficult to close the doors..but then again, no exhaust smell either. Oh, forgot to say I hate installing weatherstripping. Easiest thing to do was the front and rear glass. The rest was a pain. I will use the masking tape trick next time as mentioned on other thread.
JohnnyO Posted June 16, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted June 16, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply. Did you install the trim in the front and back seals? I thought I read recently that it was more difficult with the BD kit. I also read that the door seals are tight. I agree, might not be a bad thing. I was told that Precision makes both MSA and BD kits. The difference being that MSA has (had) their own molds and BD uses the Precision's generic molds.John
madkaw Posted June 16, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2010 I was told the BD(from their customer service) that they don't use precision. Then again-she wouldn't tell me who made their kits. I don't have any experience with the BD weatherstrip except fron t windshield weatherstrip and it looked like a nice piece.
2-4-T-Z-MAN Posted June 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 16, 2010 There was a thread "somewhere" in this site that addresses using a Hyundai weatherstrip. Can't remember what model though. It would be in the thread. Just a thought.
JohnnyO Posted June 16, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted June 16, 2010 Anybody know if the BD kit includes all the same pieces as the msa kit?

The BD kit comes with Hood/cowl rubber, door lower rubber strip, single piece rubber for each door frame (Very thick, pain to install and hard to close door), front and rear windshield rubber, Quarter window rubber (2 pieces each), both seals for rear hatch,-inner and outer (use the masking tape on these). Good news is no exhaust or gas smell.( I still have the Trans oil smell from my speedo cable issue though).

MSA has more pieces for the $, but they look identical to me. They did not come in Precision package, but they appear to be the same kit that MSA sells. cbudvet Posted June 16, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 16, 2010 The MSA kit I bought and my body shop used ended up with extra pieces they didn't use. Some were for the 280z on the label and seems to be a one size fits all. I too have trouble closing the door and hatch. Search for Hyundai and you should find a lot of info. Also, try the dealers. They still have some original stuff. Good luck.carl
