Just in case anyone wants to crunch the numbers on these parts, here they are;

*86720 - E4100 "FINISHER - floor console"

( "early" type )

*86728 - E4700 "COVER - finisher"

( "early" type )

*86720 - E8750 "LID arse'Y - floor console"

( "later" type for all models except Fairlady Z "base" model )

*86720 - E8751 "LID arse'Y - floor console"

( "later" type for Fairlady Z "base" model "S30", which had Parking Lamp system as Optional Extra )

*86723 - E8700 "GROMMET - parking switch"

( This to be used on 86720 - E8751 where Parking Lamp system is not chosen as an Option ).

Here's the schematic from the Japanese parts list manual for the cross-over period, where both types are shown;

Quote: "What I'm hoping to get out of this post, is that someone will be able to post either a picture of the ACTUAL switch,..........."

- at least you got a front and rear picture of the switch. You don't seem to have been particularly pleased with what I came up with -which makes me feel I should not have bothered.

Any kind of reply would at least have acknowledged some effort on my part.................

"Alan" thanks for extracting the digit on our behalf again, another great effort. You have succeeded again in filling the void when we just floundered. The collective knowledge is increasing, slower in some quarters granted, but that is expected.

I have a question relating to the installed panel in your car (late Model) position 1 demister switch, position 2 LH& RH parking light switches, position 3 is ??????

please fill in the blanks

thanks again

Rolf and Steve,

Many thanks for your words of encouragement.

Steve, that switch on the right hand side ( position 3 as you call it ) of my installed panel on the ZG is actually now redundant. If you look at the picture of the reverse of the panel you can see that the wires have been simply cut and tied off. The switch itself is identical to the Parking Lamp switch that is in the middle, but the actual position is marked by a "fan" symbol........

When my car came over from Japan, it had a lot of aftermarket accessories / nonsense fitted to it. These included an LED panel that indicated Oil Temp. and Water Temp. and a very nasty audio setup, as well as all sorts of other iffy bits and pieces. It also had an Air Con unit fitted to it ( one of the Factory types ) and the wiring for that was pretty ugly too. The Switch on the right was performing a non-standard function in connection with the Air Con.

All that stuff came off and went straight in the dustbin. I saved some of the switches and other useful-looking Factory bits for possible recycling on other projects.

So, at the moment its unused - but it is in fact another Parking Lamp switch as far as I can make out ( the wire connections / colours are identical ).

All the best,

Alan T.

Thanks for that response quick response Alan. I thought it was a parking switch but the fan symbol, interesting. Thought maybe a factory use, oh well!!. I to suffer from aircon wiring problems in my 12/71 auto it was landed here in Brisbane on delivery and sent to a local firm who installed a locally produced system for 240z, switches on the sliding vent and heat controls extra Fan plumbing and heat exchanger on the LH floor and the factory lower switch position left of the tacho has an amber light to show when the system is active. So as you see your not the only one suffering installed gremlins in the electrical system.

Thanks again

I have no excuse, I've been busy yes, but not so busy that I couldn't take the time.

I've printed out the picture and have gone to several places trying to find something similar or ......

Yes, it was extremely helpful. Yes, I hope to find something.

So, I apologize.

Now, not as an excuse, but rather an explanation.

The weather here in the Northwest portion of the United States, has just in the last few weeks started to turn towards winter.

While the summer was great, and I had my car parked outside while I removed the interior, front fenders, hatch, wheels, and then proceeded to refurbish. Refurbishing means, sandblasted the floor pans, trunk area, inside the hatch, behind each front fender as well as the front frame members.

Then using POR painted over all the aforementioned metal.

Restored all of the Tar Paper sound deadening, and took it a step further.

Due to the POR have had to tap just about EVERY nut or bolt hole that got POR on it.

Repaired several bad areas of rust, as well as several areas where the paint job by the IPO didn't work well.

Removed and repaired the "bondo special" job on my rear valance.

Removed, repaired, POR'd the fuel tank as well as replacing all the fuel line vent hoses.

Repaired / replaced all the rubber seals everywhere.

Headlights, tail lights, side lights, interior lights, dash lights all checked and cleaned / changed / brought to life.

New Carpet.

Repaired / replaced seat mechanisms

New Interior panels.

And it is the last item that had held me up from putting the car away for the winter. Remember it rains for about 4 months straight here. That's where I began working on the console etc. and it started the round of questions that this is a part of.

The weather the last few days has been excellent, and I just received what I thought were the last interior panels. Unfortunately, they're for a Series I 240 and not a Series II. Therefore the rear panels don't have the ventilation holes above the shock towers. Trying to get the car finalized and mothballed for winter is what kept me away from replying, as I wanted to thank you and reply with some pictures of my own. (that's been the major hold back)

So, Alan, I once again humbly apologize. Your knowledge of the Z (Zed) is encyclopaedic and impressive. It is for that reason that I approached you with my queries. However, in an effort to put my baby away, I forgot my manners.
