JohnnyP Posted June 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2010 Both the locks are broken on my Z. Neither of them will budge at all. I've tried soaking them in PB Blaster, brake cleaner, etc. and that hasn't been working. Is there another way to go about fixing these locks up? Or should I just pick up a new set? If so, were is the best place to go? Thanks to anyone who responds!!John
Bruce Palmer Posted June 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2010 Have you taken them out and gotten into them to see what the problem is? Could be someone stuffed something into them. Anyway, once they are out, a lock shop should be able to square them away. They are not complicated.
BTF/PTM Posted June 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) I don't know if the 260z window mechanisms are the same as in the 240z, but you can get at the lock and striker mechanisms very easily once you pull the glass. You may see something like mentioned above, just a chunk of something lodged in the linkage or other minor thing. With the glass out you can remove the lock cylinder, too. The linkage is held to the door cylinder with a tiny cotter pin, pull it and you can test the linkage. DO NOT DROP THE PIN inside the door, it will certainly fall into the farthest, deepest seam in the metal parts. Go ahead, ask me how I learned that one Edited June 25, 2010 by BTF/PTM
mlc240z Posted June 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 25, 2010 Was missing cotter pin on passenger side and found same size at ACE Hardware, cheap, so don't worry about that.Pull them and take to locksmith with your set of keys.Did the same for my hatch lock and they were able to clean and redo the tumbler for about $25 if I recall.Works great.
