Those Darn Miatas

We had a low car count at the Double Regional in La Junta, CO on 06/19/10, so all fendered cars were grouped together, my first time racing with the Spec Miatas. My favorite pic:

"Those darn miatas" is right, but they contribute significantly to entry fees/track rental payment and in turn keep the cost down for the rest of us. I still can't get over how many there are, and accumulating, seemingly out of the woodwork. At our last event, Memorial Day weekend, of the 40 plus cars in the small bore group, over half the field were Miatas.

Thanks for the pic, hopefully you made it through the weekend "contact free". Personally I'd be very concerned if I had to race with them, typically there's plenty of overzealous/overoptimistic driving to say the least.

I walked through impound Sunday after the race group with a bunch of Miatas and noticed quite a bit of wrinkled and crinkled sheetmetal. Those boys wring more out of those poor little cars than is really there.

Not a miata, but it is a mazda. This was at 2nd creek, our old track before High Plains Raceway. I don't know the year, but was at a scca race. This was on the 2nd creek web site.

In addition to my 73 Z, I have two Miatas.

One is setup as a streetable track car to run HPDE's. It has a roll bar, 6 pt harnesses, FIA seats, and a very stiff suspension with Toyo RA1 tires

As much as I would love to have a Datsun track car, the aftermarket parts availability strongly favors running a Miata. Plus, I won't feel as bad if I were to wreck it versus my my Z.

I hope to get my 52k mile Z to the track just once this year. But only when I replace the front suspension components with all new pieces as I doubt much of it was replaced by the original owner. I am also contemplating a slightly stiffer spring setup.

Yep those Miatas are annoying, but cheaper to fix or replace.
