Stupid lighting question

I'm curious about taking on the lighting harness upgrade, posted here:

http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/HeadlightRelays/JudkinsRelay.htm

I'm just researching for now, but it really seems like with the component prices shown on that site, the $150 price tag of MSA's ready-made harness is high to say the least. I'm no expert with wiring, but I can follow a diagram and use a multimeter and have made cables n stuff before.

So my question is, on the diagram on that site, is there a need to open the headlight switch to rewire those contacts (to improve 100% of the wiring) with new wire, or can they just be cut close to the switch and spliced that way?

A lighting upgrade is appealing, I'm sure most of us can vouch that the stock lighting after the decades is pretty much just there for decoration. Thanks, everyone.

If you're gonna do it yourself, cut open the engine harness between the Voltage regulator and the Radiator support wall. Plenty of room in that area to work. Leave the switch alone unless you're gonna pull it apart to clean the contacts.

The MSA Harness is MY harness and MSA is a Site Supporter so have at it. The harness is totally Plug and play for all 240Z's and completely reversable, as compared to you hacking up your engine harness to do it yourself.

Stock wiring is fine if you're using it for a signal to the new relays.

The MSA Harness is MY harness that I obviously sell for less, Personally but MSA is a Site Supporter so it's up to you.
Well crap, now I gotta brush my teeth to get the taste of my foot out of my mouth :embarrass: PM on its way.

Guys, I wouldn't be doing my part if I didn't encourage you to run this transaction through MSA. It's only fair to do this for both MSA and Dave, equally.

Dave used to sell the harnesses direct to members, but, he formed an agreement with MSA to sell it. In my opinion, I think that means we shouldn't encourage private sales on this site.

I look up to him for creating such a great product for the Z community and having the Entrepreneurial spirit to form a relationship with a company like MSA to sell his product. You'll have a great experience buying the harness and using it. And you know who the manufacturer is, so, obtaining technical support should be a breeze! :)

Do not cut the harness to add or modify anything. I found out the hard way this is not the thing to do with 30 year old non-transistorized wiring. I got back from a road trip to Houston and two days later I had a main harness fire. If the fire had occurred while I was on the road the car would have been burned to the ground. Cutting the harness causes more resistance than the system was designed for thus causing hot spots. Spend the 150 dollars on the upgrade or possibly risk losing the car. For anyone interested a company out of Ormond Beach Florida will build and ship S30 complete main harnesses. Cost is approximately $200. BTW I still have the car just need to save money for the main harness. Good LuckLuck
