Seat Belt Removal

GunnerRob

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of removing the interior panels of my '75 280z. I can't seem to break loose the bolt that holds the shoulder strap to the roof. And I don't want to damage or break it by forcing it.

Is it normally hard to break loose, or could the threads be left hand?

Thanks,

Rob

I have never seen a left hand threaded seat belt, and all the bolts holding the belts in my 260 are normal right hand thread bolts. They weren't all that tight either.

Seat belt bolts are big bolts though, and they are screwed to a pretty strong piece of the car, so I think you'd have to try pretty hard before you hurt anything. Maybe some WD40 overnight and a longer spanner?

If I remember correctly I also had a hard time getting the bolts out of my 75 280 when I was stripping it to race. I ended up using an impact to break them loose, and I do believe they may have had some thread lock on them of some sort.....but that was in 89 so I may be wrong.

Never remember seeing any that were left hand thread...
