Posted July 14, 201014 yr comment_325246 I'm in the process of taking on rust repairs on my '78 and need some advice. I have the replacement panels from Tabco for the lower quarter panels, but I also have rust repairs that needs to be made to the inner quarter panels that are below the bumper mounting points. Does anyone make replacement panels for this area or am I going to have to fab these areas? All suggestions appreciated.Brent Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36474-quarter-panel-rust-repairs/ Share on other sites
July 14, 201014 yr comment_325277 keep me posted I have just finish replacing the last patch on my 78 today, Yay! I will post more pics in the body work thread. my advise is to take your time, these panels do not fit perfect at first and need finessing. only replace what metal you need ( you do not need to use all of the replacement panel ) I try to retain the original metal as much as possible. A hammer and Dolly are recommended. Are you using a mig welder? (weld in slow stitches to keep warpage to a minimum). hope this helps Edited July 14, 201014 yr by grantf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36474-quarter-panel-rust-repairs/#findComment-325277 Share on other sites
July 14, 201014 yr Author comment_325322 grantf, thanks or the advice. I just finished replacing my first dogleg. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. It took lots for finessing to get it to fit right. I agree about just replacing only the metal thats bad. I think I'll have to slowly piece the damaged metal together thats behind the exterior lower quarter panel. Gonna be tedious for sure.
