Posted July 14, 201014 yr comment_325377 Was wondering how the front hood emblem is attached? I am going to be roller painting my car soon and wanted to remove this, but add it later (i know I can buy a new one . . . but DAMN they are expensive!) Can I just heat it up and remove it or is it clipped in? How would one unclip it?Thanks in advance guys (and girls!) July 14, 201014 yr comment_325384 It's held in place via two pins. Those pins are inserted into inserts that fit inside holes drilled in the hood. They are located at the 9 & 3 o'clock position on the emblem.I'd use a thin putty knife-type device and gradually pry up one side, then the other until it comes loose. Be careful, those pins are not very stout and will break easier than you think. You're also likely to need new retaining inserts unless you can salvage them when removing the emblem.Good luck. July 14, 201014 yr comment_325393 Unless an IPO used emblem adhesive tape. Then he'd be better off using dental floss.2¢E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36486-front-hood-emblem-removal/#findComment-325393 Share on other sites
July 14, 201014 yr comment_325397 Mine had no pins; It was on with double-sided tape. The holes must've been filled & painted over, as I don't see any evidence of them on either side of the bonnet. July 15, 201014 yr comment_325425 Nissan might have changed to taping them on. Mine are the pinned variety, as are/were the rest of the emblems. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36486-front-hood-emblem-removal/#findComment-325425 Share on other sites
July 15, 201014 yr comment_325427 If they do have pins you might be able to push them out from the underside. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36486-front-hood-emblem-removal/#findComment-325427 Share on other sites
July 15, 201014 yr comment_325428 My 78 had pins (5/78 build date) so if Nissan switched to tape it wasn't during the run of the S30. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36486-front-hood-emblem-removal/#findComment-325428 Share on other sites

I don't have any nos hood emblems to reference, but on the early nos metal quarter emblems I do have, Nissan used both pins and tape.
