Posted July 19, 201014 yr comment_325846 I thought that the 280ZX all had R200 diffs in them. Yesterday I pulled the diff from a 1979 and I could swear it's an R180. Can anyone please help confirm for me? Here's a link to a few pix I took of the one I removed: http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Hosted-Pix/Rxxx%20Diff/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36545-1979-280zx-with-r180/ Share on other sites

July 19, 201014 yr comment_325902 Someone could have swapped the rear-end out. The 280ZX A/T's had an R180 that was a bit stronger than the earlier types. Clean the top of the case off, and see if it has an"N" cast into the case.FWIW,Carl B. July 19, 201014 yr comment_325904 It likely is an R180 regardless of trans type. July 25, 201014 yr comment_326396 It would have the letter 'J' following the S130 in the model description such as, HLGS130JAVBC. I don't know where you'd look for that because that's not the VIN. The VIN won't show the options since it repaces those 5 letters with the sequential number.
