August 1, 201014 yr comment_326960 I smelled fuel in my car until one day working on something else I had the hood up and turned the key so the fuel pump kicked on and noticed fuel squirting out of a fuel rail to carb 1/4" hose. FWIW. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36654-thank-god-i-got-it/#findComment-326960 Share on other sites
August 1, 201014 yr Author comment_326996 Ya Mike,I thought it might be a leak to.But I have checked every place I can and see no leaks at all. After more driving today, it seems to be the carbs. But it runs so good at this setting, I dont think that it is.And when I lean it up it starts to sputter.hmmm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36654-thank-god-i-got-it/#findComment-326996 Share on other sites
August 4, 201014 yr comment_327225 Is the fuel smell with a full tank of gas? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36654-thank-god-i-got-it/#findComment-327225 Share on other sites
August 4, 201014 yr comment_327226 i have FI so its different, but i just want to point out that i had a huge fuel smell also. and could not for the life of me find the leak. it was on the fuel rail. one of the hose clamps were lose and fuel would come out and puddle on my heat sheild.. and the only reason i found this out was i had my gf turn on the key while i looked at the engine, and when the fuel pump kicked on i saw it barely drizzle out like it was very small, but because it puddled i got the bad smell. August 5, 201014 yr comment_327253 The cause of the fuel smell in my S30 was a old perished vent hose from the tank to the filler tube. It had gone where the hose enters the rear deck which is covered by the rear internal plastic light cover.Pull the rear interior hatch covers in the boot and check the lines and replace where necessary. Remember to use fuel rated hose as the vapour will eat normal hose.
