How much HP?????????

Get yourself a SB chevy V8 crate engine (350-400hp). They are ready to go just drop it in the car. You will then have a good powerplant to start with (if you still want to get to 800hp). Upgrade the rest of the car as you add more power to the engine, remember you also have to stop the car. Your $8k will go quicker than you think. I've spent almost that much in the tires, wheels, suspension, and brakes.

there is no way you can handle 800hp in a 240Z for the road or even on the track. to put that in prospective a Ferrari F50 has a 5.4kg per KW ratio, with 800hp you would have 1.76kg per kw. I would aim for the 400hp max range even that is way too scary.

you seem to be after easy hp no matter how it comes, doing up a N/A car to this level will be undriveable on the road (i.e. no hp below 4000, reving up to 8400) - great for the track though, I would suggest an L28 turbo, it is almost a direct bolt in engine conversion, take the bottom end to be rebuilt and balanced by someone who knows what they are doing (it won't cost that much) you could have you head done as well if you like (small hp gains). buy a bigger turbo like a Garret T04 or even a T03 (or have the existing turbo rebuilt), buy an intercooler - needed if you are going to wind the boost above 7psi (which if you will need to do to get it in the 300's / 400's) take it to an exhaust shop or something and have them do the pluming for the intercooler and the exhaust at the same time (won't cost that much). The T03 will take up to 15psi, the T04 will take more but the L28 block might not - I would suggest taking it to a performance shop to tweak the boost as you can easily screw things up, you could even get a adjustable boost gauge if you like, saves petrol when you don't need all that hp. then have the ECU upgraded (once again it doesn't cost that much) then boom shanka your in the 300 - 400hp range more than enough hp to pull 11 - 12 sec 1/4 miles which is kick arse!

Hi All,

Ivan, how can you say that all the things you mentioned doesn't cost that much??? Maybe if you are mega rich, then relative to your wealth it doesn't cost that much, but for all of us others: it DOES cost and it costs lots!!!

At least 3 times in your reply you said that things didn't cost much, ie ECU, exhaust and intercooler + plumbing etc, from my experience I couldn't say that those items were particularly cheap.

If anyone thinks that they are going to build a quality performance engine (and all the extras that are needed to make the car a package) for cheap then they are kidding themselves, not even people in the trade with all their discounts can honestly call this kind of project cheap.
