Posted August 11, 201014 yr comment_327629 Hey guys, I am assembling my rebuilt engine and I had a question. In which position should the cam shaft pulley be in?There is a 1, 3, or 3. What should be facing up?If my cylinder No.1 is all the way at the top, and my pulley is at 0, what should my cam shaft pulley be at?If you have pictures or something that will make it easily identifiable then I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36734-engine-assembly/ Share on other sites
August 11, 201014 yr comment_327666 I can't remember the specifics, but the 1, 2, and 3 on the camshaft sprocket is used to compensate for timing chain wear. With a tight, new timing chain, the proper position would be 1. As the chain wears, it can be shifted by a tooth and the sprocket moved to 2... and then another shift to 3.... and then it's worn out. August 12, 201014 yr Author comment_327803 Thank you Now I have to get the chain onto the wheel, the only problem is the engine is in and I don't know how to make the tensioner move so that I get that extra milimeter.... August 12, 201014 yr comment_327805 You can't install the timing chain if the front cover is in place and you didn't wedge the chain before you removed the sprocket. August 25, 201014 yr comment_328970 make sure that the holes for the alignment pins are cleaned out. It should go on fairly easy. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36734-engine-assembly/#findComment-328970 Share on other sites
