Hello all, having trouble starting my 76 280z auto. It will not start in park but when you shift lever into n position it will start right up. I also noticed that when in park the vehicle will still roll not engaging into park position. Is this a linkage adjustment problem?, and how difficult is this to do. thanks for your help. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/images/smilies/msn-style/shades_smile.gif

The shift arm is connected to a switch on the tranny. There is a test that can be done to determine if this switch is bad or out of adjustment. Involves an ohmmeter. My chilton manual showed how to test it. It's not hard. Check your hardware to make sure nothing is bent on the tranny or connected to it.

It sounds very much like linkage adjustment. The neutral/park switch is in the transmission. If the linkage is mis-adjusted the transmission will still be in reverse with the shifter in Park.

You can download a service manual here:

It should have instructions for adjusting the linkage.
