August 27, 201014 yr comment_329146 Why not ditch the rail and mechanical pump for an electric and start from scratch? Gets the line completely out of the way. Get a good line bender, a double flair tool and start with some 5/16". Summitracing.com has stainless line for cheap. September 1, 201014 yr Author comment_329734 Well the little car is cleaning up nicely. I still have to replace a trans mount and then change the fluids in the trans and rear. I am going to do another oil and filter change this weekend as I have drove it a week and I wanted to clean all the gunk out that was in it from siting 5 years. September 13, 201014 yr Author comment_330768 ok I have the car tagged with Antique plates, and got an inspection sticker even though in texas the plates override the inspection sticker. I already KNOW I have to replace the trans mount and there are 2 u-joints in the rear that need replaced but I am going to replace all 4 since I am there. I have a shimmy in the front end when slowing down and/or braking. Any ideas what is causing this? I know I should just replace everything but at 45 I am going back to school so money is an issue to some extent(isn't it always) Just looking for advice on what to look for first. I must say that I LOVE this car. the only time I EVER looked at a 240z was for the purpose of slamming a V8 in it. I have come out of stores countless times to have people walking around the car, and since the Datsun badges are gone they only see the round Z badge on the pillar behind the rear 1/4 window. So it turns into "Hey man this is an awesome looking car! What is it?" I do miss my chopped top V8 Pinto I sold to buy the 240. But Not enough to get rid of the Datsun to get another! September 14, 201014 yr comment_330811 I have an old Toyota that had a front end shimmy for years when braking and there may be other solutions but I had the rotors replaced and the problem went away.Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36780-new-ride-1972-datsun-240z/?&page=3#findComment-330811 Share on other sites
September 14, 201014 yr comment_330824 I'm about to replace the differential mount in my 280 for the same reason. Also check your mustache bar bushings that help support the differential. They could also be a cause of the rear end noise. Check the condition of your suspension bushings in both the front and rear. Replacing many of them will make a noticeable improvement. Do you have a factory service manual? They can be downloaded free. You may want to contact Ztherapy and get their Just SU , Datsun 240-280ZX Tune-up, and Street Racing Suspension DVD's. They are a very helpful resource. Good luck with the project Dave Ruiz Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36780-new-ride-1972-datsun-240z/?&page=3#findComment-330824 Share on other sites
