wilson_wwsc Posted August 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2010 I have a quick question: Is the suspension from a 71 240z interchangeable with the suspension of a 73 240z? It looks like it will work from what I can tell from my Haynes manual, but I'm not sure. Thanks
John Coffey Posted August 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2010 Generally yes. There are differences in hub centerbore, rear anti-roll bar mounts, transverse link bracing, steering arms, tie rod ends, and spring rates.
mlc240z Posted August 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2010 For the rear suspension, I believe you have to change the moustache bar, longer driveshaft and reverse the diff mount. I'm pretty sure the late '72-73 is when they made this modification to eliminate the vibration from the high half-shaft angles. I'm sure someone can correct me if my mfg dates are wrong. John Coffey Posted August 17, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2010 Driveline has nothing to do with the suspension. The diff can stay in the forward position while you swap out the struts, springs, control arms, steering, anti-roll bars, etc.
mlc240z Posted August 17, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 17, 2010 Granted, John.Just finished 'refreshing' the rear suspension (bushes, struts, springs etc) and would have done the repositioning if I had all the parts (no moustache bar). Just figured I'd mention it if Wilson had all parts available to fix the issue. Kinda a 'While I'm at it" thing.
wilson_wwsc Posted August 17, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted August 17, 2010 I actually have an extra moustache bar and diff mount (i think) from a r200 rear end z. I only bought it because I was just looking at those parts at my junkyard, took it off, and thought, well, I already did the work, might as well buy the part.
