source for floorpans?

I've got two noticeable rust holes under the pass seat - both about 2-3" long - and the only thing keeping the elements out is the tar paper on the inside, under the carpet.

I don't SEE anything as bad under the driver's seat but that doesn't mean it isn't there....

so i was thinking of putting new floors in, should i do frame rails at the same time?

i know MSA has floors, but i am not so hot on their CS and wouldn't mind taking my business elsewhere...

does anyone recommend a good source for floorboards that remain close to the original factory ones?

now as far as actually putting them in, i've got a friend who does great welding (he's done all 3 iterations of my exhaust so far) and i would have him do it... is there anything to watch out for, to be careful about, etc that would require special chassis skills other than cutting out the bad piece (with a torch, with a sawzall, etc) and welding in the new one???

thank you,

-e

His floorpans are the best, and although I haven't bought them myself, (no need), I've heard from dozens of folks who say the same.

I was able to get my Chrome Headlight Covers from him when no one else was able to get them

Regarding replacing the frame rails, don't go cutting metal out just because you may have heard there could be trouble there.

First check them out, if you HAVE problems then address them, but if you're going to begin replacing metal just because it might have or might get rust, then just buy a new car.

Many times there are repairs that can be made without having to replace all the metal. If your friend is knowledgeable have him look at it. All it might need is a reinforcement gusset that he can fabricate in his shop.

Yep, Charlie's the man! Plus a US dollar is worth what, 20 bucks canadian??!! <JK> The exchange rate does help though.

I agree to check the frame rails thoroughly, don't just start hacking- the angles/channels that run from the floors up to the frame rails can be easily fabricated by a decent welder. (as i remember, if you order frame rails it is only the straight steel beam thats in the engine compartment, not the angle back to the floors)

A couple hints- a plasma cutter makes it alot cleaner & easier to remove the old- but be aware that depending on the model year, the fuel lines may run down one of the channels in the floor!!! Damn near lost my pal's 260 when we discovered THAT the hard way! Its a good idea to have a cutter in one hand, fire extinguishing plan in the other:stupid:

Good luck, JA
