Howdy GuyZ, I'm from germany and owner of a 1970 Datsun 240 Z. I imported this fine car from the US and restored it carefully in the past months. In August I joined the 40 anniversary Z convention in Nashville and was proud to meet this great and huge Z family. Glad to join the club, to read your posts, to marvel at your cars.

well, let us know how fast your zed will go on the autobahn.

Thorsten please lets see some pics, before and after. Is it modified to run faster, or all original? I remember being in a BMW 735 taxi going 120MPH on the Autobahn. We had a Porsche (959 I think) blow past us,must have been doing close to 200MPH. Lucky man to have access to such a great highway. I was on my way to Straussberg, near Kiel Germany.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Of course I had several rides on the autobahn. Fastest speed was 110 mls. I prefer to drive relaxed. The car is to good for speed duels...

Hi Rick, you find pics in the "garages" sector. The car was not modified, everything is original. It has a 5 speed, thats all.

There are a lot of rumors about german autobahns. We have speed limits too, this concerns to circa 80 % of the entire route network. There are 120 km/h allowed (80 mph). Without speed limits you can drive as fast you want if the traffic makes it possible. I drove a Porsche once 180 mph .... stress, makes no fun.

Hello Mike, a pity that I did not meet you in Nashville. It as a great event. I felt as a child in a candy shop. Classic Zs are extremely rare in Europe, so I have never seen so many beautiful Datsuns at one place on one day.

I've got an autograph of Mr. Matsuo on my sunvisors. Hey, that looks great.

May be we see us in Savannah next year on the convention. A beautiful place.

Yes, I hope to meet you some time in the future. Perhaps your next trip to the US should be to the west coast. The convention this year was very special, due to the presence of guests like Mr. Matsuo and the number of former Gold Medallion winners that brought their cars. It may not be equaled again for many years, if ever. I was able to talk to Mr. Matsuo briefly, but unfortunately didn't get his autograph on anything or any pictures with him. I had hoped to later, but ran out of time with so many other things going on.

The Z you imported from the US is most likely labeled as a 1971 model even though it was manufactured in 1970 (does VIN tag say Dec, 1970)

It is also born only 23 vehicles after my Series I 240Z.

This a great site for historical and technical info on the early Z-cars.

Very nice job on the resto. I like the luggage bar in the back area. I remember the taxi driver telling us about the huge fines for speeding or driving on the left side of the road. I am curious, do you have to pass safety or emmision inspections for antique cars in Germany?
